Guy I went to school was wicked smart, seriously one of the smartest people I knew, but he was terrified of mass shootings. He was convinced that at some point him, or his family, would be killed in one. So of course he did the totally rational thing, and uprooted his family to move to New Zealand. Smart people can be incredibly dumb.

The Universe likes a good joke though, so within a year of moving there, Christchurch happened.

This hotel should have been swept and every room verified clear of arms or explosives during the week before the event. Everyone entering the week before should have gone through a security check including metal detectors and bomb sniffing dogs.

That this armed man was able to travel freely using the hotel stairs without any scrutiny is stunning.

Exactly. If he were the king (or tyrant, dictator or despot) these idiots make him out to be, why haven't they been loaded into boxcars and shipped off to gulags, or worse? All while praising actual tyrants, dictators and despots like, for example, the Castros or the ayatollahs.

Hotel entrance should have airport level security with metal detectors. Federal security, not hotel managed. Then another similar checkpoint to get in the ballroom area. It would be an inconvenience to hotel guests that are not part of the event, but at this point there is no other option.

I was thinking earlier he could have kept the guns in his car, outside the hotel, but then it was confirmed he took the train. Might have had a rental car though. If so, he could have gotten them from the car just before he ran through the checkpoint. But that proves the need for two checkpoints.

I don't know who labelled that video, but that's George Papadopoulos, NOT George Stephanopoulos. The latter is an ABC former Clinton stooge, the former got caught up in the "Russia collusion" hoax as a Trump foreign policy advisor.

Wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if George Papadopoulos is right, though. Wink

Just because you are smart does not mean you think logically or critically. When the facts are shaped as a narrative by the media which includes the omission of information, people can be manipulated into believing anything. AI is going to continue to refine an already successful media disinformation campaign and deepen the divisions of the right and left. It’s hard to know what is real, where there’s bias, and how to find real factual information. It takes effort which intellectually lazy people will not put into finding truth.

As to security at the WHCD. Did the Secret Service do their job by having layered security and the area secure where their protected people were confined? I know the knee jerk reaction is metal detectors and bag searches of every guest for however long it takes makes you feel better, but that shouldn’t be the answer. Let’s not trample the rights of many for the few scumbags and crazies who intend harm. They’re useful idiots for the socialist/commie left. I hope he gets passed around like a pack of smokes in a prison yard at his future residency.

THE CANARY IN THE COLE MINE

By now, if your scrolling addiction is even moderate to low, you’ve already seen news of would-be assassin Cole Allen’s ‘manifesto’ —a generous label, considering his supposed intellectual credentials. Frankly, and disappointingly, Allen set the bar pretty low, considering all his degrees from top universities and “Teacher of the Year” status. Anyway, so far as I can tell, only the conservative New York Post printed the complete version, in a story headlined, “Exclusive: Read White House Correspondents’ Dinner gunman Cole Allen’s full anti-Trump manifesto.
https://nypost.com/2026/04/26/...nti-trump-manifesto/

If you want to know what’s really wrong with America today, look no further than our manifesto writers. There was a time when a proper manifesto had some heft to it. It was typed on a manual typewriter in a cabin with no electricity, walls lined with aluminum foil, and it usually involved a very detailed and complex (if mathematically questionable) explanation of why the industrial revolution was a bad idea.

But today? Today we get Cole Allen, 31, formerly a Los Angeles resident, but now permanently rehoused with the Bureau of Federal Prisons.

Right before he launched his failed attack, Cole, who uses the online nickname “coldForce” (which sounds less like an assassin and more like a brand of men’s body wash available at gas stations), released a 1,052-word document outlining his deeply held grievances. He signed it: Cole “coldForce” “Friendly Federal Assassin” Allen. (Quote marks in original. And yes, he gave himself two nicknames.)

To be clear, I did not make that up. He actually called himself the “Friendly Federal Assassin.” (For the record, that is also a good name for a Casper the Friendly Ghost reboot in which Casper gets very online and very angry about government policy. Or a good name for a punk rock band: The Friendly Federal Assassins. Either way.) It was the kind of title you give yourself when you are trying your best to murder high-ranking government officials— but you also want to make sure you get a good Yelp review. Four stars. He shot at the podium, but he was very polite and asked for consent first.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
