Just dug through my disoriented pile of "treasure" to make things easier for whomever has to clean up after I'm gone, and reality is creeping in. I AM an old shit.

Found a 3 fl. oz. can of Hoppe's 9 Lubricating Oil that I bought for 71cents. When was this ever 71 cents? 60's, maybe.

And an old olive drab, oval 2 oz. can of USGI Rifle Bore Cleaner, POISON. by the Curran Corp. Malden, Mass. for cleaning mercuric salts when using corrosive primers. I think I got that for under a dollar as well.

Well, now I'm depressedWink Should have left it all alone. Now I have to work my nerve up to finish that mess.
Hopefully I'll find a 1943 copper penny in mint condition so I can go out and buy more stuff (sometimes false motivation is all you have).

So--just how "old" are you? I think I can claim the attribute because in 11 days I'll be 82.

Yeah, the older we get the more "stuff" we have laying around. It's a good thing to sort this out if you're not using it. When my parents passed, my wife and I spent a lot of time sorting through things... mostly stuff that had a "little" usefulness but not something that could be liquidated. I too am gradually working to scale down.

Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves.

Timely post.

I was just out in the garage going through Five big file boxes that were the contents of my file cabinets when I worked for the Highway Patrol.

I'd already purged quite a bit out of them, but REALLY threw stuff away today. Got rid of four, left with one box.

Found a lot of memories, both good and bad.

Letters from citizens that felt I served them well. Along with accidents files from fatal and injury accidents.

I tore up and shredded a lot of files, as well as photos of a lot of accident victims.

Man but I do NOT miss the job. Even thirteen years later , I'm happy to be retired.

My grand dad was a pack rat...he had shit from WWII....and hid money in everything. We had to go thru each book, newspaper, box, pockets....we recovered several thousand dollars after he died.

I learned that what we may think is important won’t be to anyone else.

I'm 72 and this thread reminds me that I need to prune my "stuff." Gesh. How I am looking forward to that...NOT!

For several years now I have been getting rid of my "stuff", you know, things I just might need some day. I feel better about it, have some extra cash in my pocket and a lot more room in the garage and barn. If I need something, I just go buy it. Makes a lot more sense.

I'm 72.

Yes, I am older than flashguy.

I don't know how many members are older than I am, I think that one is retired LE but I can't remember his name.

I think that would be an interesting thread; I will start one.
I just did. Here it is: Who Are The Oldest And Youngest SIGforum Members?
