I just got a call from one of my best friends since high school, a man I've known for over forty years, that his mother in law mas murdered Thursday afternoon while walking her dog. A random act of horrific violence by someone she didn't even know. We are still coming to grips with the reality of this and could use prayers for him and his family.

Wrap Your loving arms around him in this time of unimaginable sorrow. Bring him the comfort that only You can give—the kind that surpasses all understanding. Heal the wound that violence has torn open in his life. Guard their heart from bitterness, anger, or despair that can so easily take root after such a tragedy.

Lord, we ask for Your peace to surround him like a shield. Give him strength when the grief feels overwhelming. Help him to remember the good memories with his mother, even as the pain of how they were taken feels so raw and unfair.

We pray for justice in this situation, that truth would prevail and those responsible would be held accountable. But above all, we ask that You would draw him closer to You through this darkness. May he feel Your presence in the quiet moments, in the tears, and in the long nights.

Restore hope to his spirit in Your perfect timing. Surround him with caring friends and family who know how to listen without trying to “fix” the pain. And when the questions come—Why? How could this happen?—help him to find rest in Your love, even when answers are not yet clear.

In the name of Jesus, who understands suffering and who conquered death, we pray. Amen.

That's horrible. I hope you can help him find peace.

That is also terrible sigmonkey. In such cases it always feels to me the police quit trying to solve these. It just goes in the the trash bin of never being solved. Which to me means lazy police to me.
Not being committed to solving. Which piss's me off. His life meant something. And he deserves justice.
