Thread drift- I get occasional texts from scammers telling me I have unpaid tolls from roads I’ve never been on that seem to be based on my cells area code (610 in PA). I wonder how many people that actually travel on them near their supposed location get scammed?

I would probably bring my EZ pass and register the rental to my account on my phone. When I bought mine I had to get the suction cup mount off ebay (or wherever, didn't come with transponder)

Dropped back to add that both Ohio and Indiana's sites suck. Could not complete registration on the Ohio Turnpike site because I could never get it to send the confirmation e-mail with a security code and Indiana, despite multiple tries, would not allow me to complete the transaction for a transponder and pay for it.

The IL site for IPass/EZ Pass has always worked for me, an IA resident.

https://getipass.com/

I bought a transponder about 15 years ago when our daughter did an internship in Chicago. We kept it and have used in for travel all over, though IIRC it was not valid in KS.

IL is doing away with the plastic, box like transponders. It's now a flat sticker as shown here:

"No charge for I-PASS Sticker Tags, and no deposit required for I-PASS Sticker Tags obtained at an Illinois Tollway Customer Service Center or ordered online."

Do I have to sign up for E-ZPass in each state that I want to travel in? Which one do I need?

No, you only have to sign up with one agency in order to experience the convenience of using E-ZPass anywhere E-ZPass is accepted. Certain toll agencies offer discount programs to their frequent customers. It is suggested that you inquire about any discount programs offered by the agency whose facilities you will most frequently use and, if applicable, establish your account with that agency's E-ZPass service provider.

Recently my brother and I drove a U-Haul truck from Colorado to FLA when he moved here. He got billed by U-Haul separately. Apparently, in the space of 17 minutes, we incurred $63 in tolls driving through Dallas. He’s contesting the amount, the Texas Toll whatever have no record but it showed on SunPass (Florida’s toll system including transponders). He demanded pics of the time frame in question. There were tolls but that’s really high for the time frame. I don’t know if yet resolved.
