elmerLost check in the banking system
I made a purchase from a friend on April 21. He deposited the check in his bank on April 24th. This is a different bank from mine. The check has not Yet cleared my account. I notified my friend and he has his money. His bank is looking for the check, and my bank has no information. Has anyone Else experienced an extended check clearance?

Jlmorris15Batches of check images occasionally get misplaced in transit but usually are soon found. (This is way less frequent post-Check21.) If the images were destroyed, the bank may be in process of recreating the file. Just my $0.02.

If he is sure he got his money, then I would not worry about it but you can’t think they won’t take it in the end. Banks don’t let tellers go home until all the money is accounted for to the penny. I can’t imagine they’ve changed.
I forgot if you said you called your bank. That’s also an avenue to pursue.

FredwardChecks are scanned into the system now and paid nearly immediately, like debit card expenditures. It's common practice to delay funds transfers as interest on huge amounts accumulates every 6 hours, I believe. Tiny amounts, but if you're dealing in billions...
