I made a purchase from a friend on April 21. He deposited the check in his bank on April 24th. This is a different bank from mine. The check has not Yet cleared my account. I notified my friend and he has his money. His bank is looking for the check, and my bank has no information. Has anyone Else experienced an extended check clearance?

Batches of check images occasionally get misplaced in transit but usually are soon found. (This is way less frequent post-Check21.) If the images were destroyed, the bank may be in process of recreating the file. Just my $0.02.

Your friend got his money from you which you say has still not been deducted from your account. If he is sure he got his money, then I would not worry about it but you can’t think they won’t take it in the end. Banks don’t let tellers go home until all the money is accounted for to the penny. I can’t imagine they’ve changed. I forgot if you said you called your bank. That’s also an avenue to pursue. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I don't think that seems too long. I don't write many checks these days, usually when I do it's me depositing it to my ex's account at a different bank. Always seems to take forever to clear. Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here. Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard. -JALLEN "All I need is a WAR ON DRUGS reference and I got myself a police thread BINGO." -jljones

Checks are scanned into the system now and paid nearly immediately, like debit card expenditures. It's common practice to delay funds transfers as interest on huge amounts accumulates every 6 hours, I believe. Tiny amounts, but if you're dealing in billions...
