Was at Costco Sunday and it was crazy. Cashier said sales were higher than Christmas due to the stimulus check

jimb888The word on the street (as detailed by the meme on P3) was that the bill that just "gave" every eligible recipient a $600 stimulus check will cost each taxpayer over $14,000. I'd rather they keep their paws off my money and simply let us all keep our own $600. Much cheaper.
Enjoy.

hbablerWell now that payment tracker is active I can see that I’m getting a paper check mailed tomorrow.
That’s strange, I got the first one via direct deposit and my banking info has been the same for oh ten years or so. Glad to see the feds can still screw up everything they put their hands to.

David WWe got our money redeposited back into our checking account, $2400 2 adults/ 2 children. I guess we are unlucky/lucky my wife was on disability for 6 months last year or we would not have received that much.

BrowndrakeI just checked the payment tracker and my payment has been deposited into an account I do not recognize. I'm wondering it was put on a debit card or something...or if I've been highjacked.
I've been dealing with identity theft since September. Someone has been using my SS# and old address to apply for unemployment benefits in another state. I wonder if this is related....

Jim BridgerWe received $2,400 dollars. Egypt received millions. Egypt will use that money to buy arms from Russia. I used mine to buy 2 S&W handguns. I bought them from a Republican not a communist.

bossmanMy card with $600 is mailing tomorrow per IRS website. Brownells already took my money, 3 of their different retro AR models that are now sold out and out of production.

They pull the bank account info from your 2019 tax return. So if you used a tax preparer like H&R Block or similar, your IRS info is likely linked to a temporary holding account used by your tax preparer, not directly to your actual bank account.
So your refund (or in this case stimulus) goes from the .gov to the tax preparer's intermediary account, then is sent on to your bank. Typically adds a day or so of extra processing time.
This is the most common source of abnormal bank account numbers in the payment tracker. Doesn't mean it's not fraudulent, especially if you're already dealing with identify fraud issues. Just means that everyone shouldn't automatically freak out if they see an unfamiliar bank account number in the payment tracker, especially if they had someone else prepare their 2019 taxes.

NavyGuygot my $1200 this morning.

Thank you for this explanation. I actually just got off the phone with H&R Block. I am optimistic that this is indeed what is happening.
With the amount of identity theft stuff I've been dealing with in the past 3 or 4 months my nerves are kind of shot. I just keep waiting for the next bad thing to happen.

GreymannMy daughter's check went to H&R block also. H&R says they will forward the money to her account in a couple of days.
She checked last night and saw that the money went into some unfamiliar account.
She got of hold of irs this morning.
