I woke this morning to find a $1200 ACH direct deposit into my bank account. Great way to start the new year. Smile

As of 5 PM yesterday (when I deposited my regular paycheck), no eagle. So I probably won't see it until next week. And I thought it was supposed to be $600. Since I have been able to keep my job (auto repair was "essential") and have a little money squirreled away, I don't have to have it, but it will sure be welcomed.

An email arrived from the account of a person whose finances I monitor. $600 deposited. The individual is in assisted living care 24-7, has not touched money in decades, and has no need for additional funds. There is a monthly surplus from SSDI, in fact. At some point the markets will realize debt it crippling our economy. Even selling Alaska to the Chinese will not meaningfully reduce our debt.

I just checked our account. +$1200.

This is definitely a good way to start 2021.

Why $1200 though? Unless I got an extra $600 for the child that I claim?

My wife and I file taxes as “married filing jointly”. $600 each.
I would assume HenryAZ is the same.
You have a dependent child. Extra $600.

I guess I don't share the same opinion as others that getting a government handout is a good way to start the new year.

^^^THIS X 100!

I did get my first round this week from April, so I should get round 2 by halloween 2021 if it takes the same track.

The first go around I was out of work and could have used it, this time I'm working. Why are they sending me a check to begin with? I rather if they have to send checks out that they send $1,200 to people who have lost their jobs.

Complete waste of my tax dollars, and more unneeded debt.

I am a funder not a spender in this exercise. I guess given my age that is a good thing.

But I worry for my kids and their generation who will have to pay for all this stimulus interest.

Thank you China, your virus worked, got rid of Trump and our middle class.

All your working life you've been paying into the system. They're just giving you a little bit of it back. You're not going to take your Medicare and Social Security when you come of age then, either, right? The real issue is not the token payments to individuals, it's all the other horse shit that was in the bill.

^^^If they were giving me my money back, awesome. They are borrowing/printing massive amounts of money. They are taking more money from you, not giving it to you.

Ours will be used the same way as the last one. To pay our quarterly taxes. Sending $600 to the bar and restaurant owners is just insult on top of injury.

Just checked and mine has come in as well. The way I look at it like this.....the government has caused all the shut downs, layoffs etc so some of our tax money should be coming back to help us. I was out of work over three months the first go around and have been out again for the past month because of this crap so it is welcome income at this point. The part I really have a problem with is all the "pork" and money going to other countries for stupid shit.

It's amazing how quickly people get comfortable taking money from the government and then make excuses for it.

A great start to 2021 indeed. And the era of Harris/Biden begins...

Government forces people out of work, to close their businesses, and exhaust their savings. And then they get a pat on the back for giving everyone $600. Pathetic. Cut my taxes and cut spending. That'd be a great start.

Those of us who pay the most into the "system" get the least back, which is the case here for me. A little bit of it back? Yeah, you can say that again. I might see $50 total for both my wife and me, and she was out of work for most of 2020 due to the Wuhan. And Social Security? In 25-30 years, will I even see a dime of that entitlement? Not likely.

$27+ trillion in debt. Good God almighty.

Oh I agree. This part i certainly haven't been clear about. I agree that people should be getting money from our government because the government caused all of this hardship. I just don't see it as a great start to the new year. Not at all. End the lockdowns completely beginning right now and allow the economy to do its thing. That would be a great start of the new year.

How do the Feds know your your checking account info?

I pay my income taxes electronically via EFT, but I have to provide my bank account number and bank routing number each time, so they don’t have it on file.

But my SS check is deposited into my checking account every month, so the SSA knows it.

I agree totally that this lockdown shit needs to stop right now, and let people get back to work.
