That will improve your situation more than spending time worrying about something that in the grand scheme of things you may not be able to fix, and is not as important.
Except that a lot of people have an interest in this being handled properly. It is also important for people who may need help in the future. This has the potential to cause people to be reluctant about donating funds.
Yeah, um, no we don't, and I'm not one bit reluctant.
Buying a used car isn't an exact science, sometime you get a POS, sometimes you get a great car. Most times it's in the middle, he got a good deal on a lower mileage vehicle, an half shaft isn't a huge expense, it sucks to lay out money after buying anything, but please tell me how many of you guys have bought a new home that immediately needed repairs even though you did it all right and had the house inspected first. Or no one has bought a car that something failed on it in a week's time?
Keep on trucking David, hope you land the new job. You got 80,000 people sending out prayers and good thoughts for you.

220-9erSounds like you have your priorities in the right order.
You hit a bump in the road and I'm sure there will be more but learning how to deal with them and not repeating them is what's important.
Good luck with the job search. Solving that little problem will be the key to moving the ball forward.

Thank you all again as I highly value the knowledge of the people here. This is why I asked for your thoughts. Its been a head spinner sinse I took the van last Friday. As late as this afternoon a friend was suggesting I call the States Attorney General to ask for help. Already thought of that and their site does mention As Is buying condition being pretty much final. While over the years, I have bought a few cars cheap enough to just lay out cash and drive away, I also have financed a few new cars. This transaction, I sort of counted on the dealer being more of a straight shooter. Were it I, I would have assigned one of my mechanics to evaluate its condition and made the few hundred dollar repairs prior to letting the customer have the van. This is not how the dealer operates. He is a snake of a business man. This all said, I have no more time for drastic measures against them as I need to use my time to get reestablished in a place of work. Take to heart, the Forum Members did me proud with all the help. I could not have been treated better. This little van is a dandy and will serve me well. I can do the remaining repairs or have them done. All will be well now.
Spot on David. Love the positive attitude!
Best of luck with your 11am interview tomorrow!

David LeeIt is CNC of some type. I know they manufacture auto seat componants and wire form type machinery. Took them a while to respond. That company is only about 2 1/2 miles from the market. The wages are pretty good.

shovelheadDavid, if you are replacing the CV joint yourself I would suggest instead that you get a remanufactured axle (half shaft) instead of just replacing the outer joint. The inner ones don't go bad as often (at least from my experience with GM vehicles) but then at least you are starting out with one fully gone through and lubricated.

ruger357Ask for an auto check report. Better than car fax. It's what dealerships use.

From the beginning I though he went to a dealership since he called it a dealership. To me it's a used car place and not a dealership so that's one reason I had questions. Used car places around here have shade tree people they call mechanics.
David I hope you get everything with your van done and it last you a long time. And good luck with your job interview tomorrow and get hired so you can get a place to live and get back on your feet.

cparktdUnscrupulous used car dealers are pro's at what they do. They do it for a living, all day every day. If they set out to screw someone over they usually succeed.
A friend used to work at one just out of High School, budding mechanic.
They had an old car with a bad wheel bearing. So bad it had frozen and spun on the spindle, wearing it down so that a new bearing was loose.
Boss told him just wait, he would go get the needed part to repair it. Boss came back with a beer. He sat down and drank it then handed him the empty can and told him to cut a piece and wrap enough around the spindle to shim up the bearing and put it back together.
My friend did it... but after a sleepless night went back and quit.
Endeavor to persevere. February 10, 2019, 07:24 AM
