David, someone earlier mentioned Carmax. I'd recommend them too. You may pay a bit more for a car, but their reputability and policy would make it worth it IMO.

I was hoping there would a fellow member connected to a car dealership in your area.

I really believe that you made the right decision and I recommend Carmax as well.

Good luck Wednesday.

Except for to pick up my title, I'm never going back there. Credit Union says 2 weeks for the funds to be returned to my account. At this point, I am done with that dealer. A pretty darn good lesson in car buying has been learned by me. I still like the van and its a good van. Besides all the drama from this, I have a job interview Wednesday. I want to go back to work now. The Sienna will serve me well.

David, all of this is ultimately your call.

Here’s my advice: stop payment on the check, drop the van off tomorrow and hand over the keys, hitch a ride or Uber home.

Rent a car for the next week or two, which will allow you to carefully and methodically make the best car buying decision. You cannot afford to make a mistake in your current situation.

I agree. STOP payment on the van. I would question the mileage on that van, too.

Hi all. The document from my Credit Union isn't worth the paper its printed on because it needs to be signed and notorized by the dealer. I called and he said hes not signing anything. As well, the mechanics doing yestetdays bearing change did not even address the CV joint sounds. You really cant miss that. They did however leave about 30 new scratches and paint chips across its defect free hood, on the fenders. I told the GM this morning I will see him in Court. That is probably a waste of time too. I dont believe I am ever going near their place of bad business again. I did not make all wise choices in the van purchase guys as I did not know better. For that I am sorry. I have some experience now. Their little Mexican mechanics got grease all over my light grey door panel and the kick panel below the door. I can clean that up.

I just called my bank, told them to stop it, and swung by to sign whatever form released them from liability.

Didn't have to stop in. Didn't have to have the other person fill out any paperwork. Didn't have to notarize anything.

No thank you reloader-1. It is done. If it needs repair in the future, I will see it gets done. I have a couple people I know here saying, Oh my god, you got a lemon cuz it has a bad CV joint. Shows what they know. No more distraction about new plans please. I got snockered buying a used vehicle. I own it. I have more important things, like getting hired here to do with my time.

I’m lost. Did he stop payment? Is he taking that junk back? They are not going to want to take it back if he keeps getting it repaired. They will just send it back to a auction and not spend money on it.

That will improve your situation more than spending time worrying about something that in the grand scheme of things you may not be able to fix, and is not as important.

Except that a lot of people have an interest in this being handled properly. It is also important for people who may need help in the future. This has the potential to cause people to be reluctant about donating funds.

If one opts to give, it should be given freely without stipulations and/or strings.

Last time I checked, most charities receiving donations didn't reach out to donors asking exactly what to do with funds.

No reason to turn this into more than it is. There is always someone that has to throw out the questions about what was collected or how it was spent thst ruin it for all. So, keep squeaking and see how that plays out for everyone or simply decide how you will proceed and address any future charitable requests.

David, I hope this bump in the road is in the rearview soon. Keep the faith.

The above posts says what I was thinking. Some suggested staying in a hotel when it was cold, David opted to rough it. David decided on a used car, has a few problems, that is his choice. Let's look forward not back.

Although I would keep asking for advise- lots of good knowledge here. Just need thick skin for when a few feel you made the wrong choice.

I'm willing to bet there are many here who have been screwed over in a used car deal. I have and it was more then once.

He asked for advice on returning that van and from past experiences with used car salesmen, I offered a couple of suggestions.

Good luck with the car, and the job. Best wishes!

So the best approach to this is to make him turn his focus away from looking for a job? If he cannot get his money back, what exactly will be accomplished by making him feel badly about it?

Donating to help David Lee out, as many of us have, isn't like buying stock in a company.

Because of donations We aren't entitled to any information about him, nor does he have to do what the forum thinks he should do, or any of that.

The forum doesn't do these fundraisers lightly, but let's also not make more out of it than need be made. The man has enough on his plate.

Arc.

Reluctant? I'm glad that I was able to donate at the time. I had just gotten out of surgery and was tied up with bills and also fixing a truck I bought earlier (could fill a separate thread about this). Money was tight. I still found a way.

The CV joint(s) aren't that much price wise considering what is being purchased (Admittantly, I haven't bought them for a Toyota, so what do I know). Labor and a wheel alignment would be a bit more, but nothing that should break the bank. Some have driven around for a long time with a bad CV joint and were able to put it off until they are ready for it

Thank you all again as I highly value the knowledge of the people here. This is why I asked for your thoughts. Its been a head spinner sinse I took the van last Friday. As late as this afternoon a friend was suggesting I call the States Attorney General to ask for help. Already thought of that and their site does mention As Is buying condition being pretty much final. While over the years, I have bought a few cars cheap enough to just lay out cash and drive away, I also have financed a few new cars. This transaction, I sort of counted on the dealer being more of a straight shooter. Were it I, I would have assigned one of my mechanics to evaluate its condition and made the few hundred dollar repairs prior to letting the customer have the van. This is not how the dealer operates. He is a snake of a business man. This all said, I have no more time for drastic measures against them as I need to use my time to get reestablished in a place of work. Take to heart, the Forum Members did me proud with all the help. I could not have been treated better. This little van is a dandy and will serve me well. I can do the remaining repairs or have them done. All will be well now.
