Peace through superior firepower |
A cover of Ain't No Rest For the Wicked. The original is from Cage the Elephant. The song lends itself to this jazzy interpretation. Y'know, I never really got the Radiohead song Creep. With this cover featuring the heavenly Haley Reinhart, I feel like I'm hearing this song for the first time. What a great rendition. Turn it up. Bonus track Continuing the theme of rock covers. Ms. James has great pipes.

Hey, those are all pretty neat. I especially liked the first two. Coincidentally, I just stumbled across Cage the Elephant a couple days ago, for the first time, while researching a different song/ artist...and while I only watched a couple of their videos I liked the songs. Cool to see a jazzed up version of Ain't No Rest for the Wicked. I actually do like Radiohead's Creep and have the Pablo Honey album on CD...but I gots to admit I really enjoyed Haley's rendition of it. A couple different singing styles but great vocals in all three songs...and it's kinda nice to hear some strings and brass...I've always had an appreciation for them, but lately seem to be listening to music featuring these along with piano. Interesting to go through phases in musical appreciation.

I love PMJ. Watch "All about the bass" Haily Reinhart and Morgan James should both be national stars. They both can actually sing without electronic help. https://youtu.be/_VCFd32KUVw Hell has no fury like a liberal confronted with reality

PMJ was founded by a guy named Scott Bradlee, and all these arrangments are his. I really like this arrangement. This is a case of the cover being far superior to the original.

Oh I hadn't heard the Cage the Elephant one. Thanks... I like pretty much all of these highly stylized covers.

Ohhh, now both Bye Bye Bye and Shoop were actually fun to groove to...and both were so much better than the originals, so much so that I never bothered to try to figure out what the lyrics were in the original versions...mostly because I either tuned them out or turned them off. Those were just flat out fun songs and the vocals were fantastic...even Tambourine Guy cracked me up. I can see I'm going to be spending some time checking out what all PMJ has to offer.

Yes, a theme for a world gone mad. Most appropriate.

If you ever get the chance to see them live, do whatever you can to go. It is an absolute blast. Even my friends who are hit or miss with jazz had a great time. Wait...so they put on live shows? How awesome would that be! One of the musical influences in my past was Swing, mostly traditional, but we had a local contemporary Swing band that I loved to watch perform...I have a feeling watching PMJ perform live would be an absolute blast!

I dig this one with Kate Davis: While not a PMJ video, Morgan James rocks Sledgehammer: A little Nawlins style Sweet Child O' Mine:

Haley Reinhart has one of those voices that speaks to me. Here is a duet with Casey Abrams: Link to original video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DO8vD0ClzbE JP

I have been watching Puddles and PMJ for about two years now. I have come to the conclusion that Puddles is a national treasure. In my opinion he only singer in that can rival Elvis in power and quality of his voice. Scott Bradlee is so very impressive for his mastery of the piano, he plays all the music, much of which seems complicated, from memory and without any type of notes or sheet music. Also, beyond my poor ability to comprehend, he can take a mediocre song, re-envision the song and make it far better than the original. His ability to locate upcoming singers and create music showcasing their talent is seemingly without end.

That was time well spent. All those songs sounded like that was the original score. ___________________ "the world doesn't end til yer dead, 'til then there's more beatin's in store, stand it like a man, and give some back" Al Swearengen
