Have a great trip. Give a shout if you need anything near I81 and I86 in NY!

Btw, do you have your guitar along for this adventure?

Zion was a washout again this year. Got there late enough that the lot was packed with many cars/trucks roaming the lot waiting for a space. Got the hell out and back to I15. But then took 20 over the 89 north to see better sights and a more rural feel heading to Salt Lake City.

Tomorrow to the Tetons and Jackson. I might get into Yellowstone a bit if the south road is open. Next day for sure.

No guitar with me this trip, but had a bite to eat at a place called Lake Effect in SLC. Listened to a great player/singer who inspired me to play more.

A Utah guy here. If you've seen Zion and not seen Bryce Canyon I would give some serious consideration to Bryce. The wife and I much prefer it. It is very unique and beautiful. If you've seen both, disregard my useless advice Big Grin

The last road trip we took out that way one evening we were coming out of Yellowstone via the Chief Joseph Scenic byway headed to Cody. The full moon was rising over the mountains. Stunning! I kept stopping for pictures.

I drove through Zion last year and got a good feel of the park, but didn't see where the bus takes you. I took that route to get to Bryce which I saw and loved. I do think Arches was my favorite though.

I hope to see a lot of Yellowstone, but understand quite a few roads are still closed. I'll see. I'll keep in mind the Chief Joseph Scenic byway.

Are you going to get a picture of the T.A. Moulton barn?

We were in that area an hour before sunrise in 2022. By the time the sun came up there must have been 30 people there!

Got the hell out and back to I15.

Wish I'd seen this before you did that. Going east out of Zion, then up 89 to UT12 is just an amazing drive...much better than the interstate. It'll take you by Bryce, through Grand Staircase National Monument, then either east through through Capitol Reef where you can turn north to I70, or west back towards I15. It's a bit of a detour if you're trying to get to SLC, but it's worth it for the absolutely amazing views and all kinds of neat stuff to stop and check out on the way.

The Buffalo Bill Center of the West is a great place to visit. The Winchester collection is housed there, but it is in Cody, Wyoming (4 hours from Jackson through Yellowstone).
If you make it here, contact me.

Yes, the Buffalo Bill Center is great. In fact, Cody is great. Good little Italian restaurant there on the main drag, or at least there used to be....

If taking I90 from Livingston to Rapid City, I would make a stop at Devils Tower in WYO.

I stayed on 15 only til Rt 20 crossed me over to 89 north. That was definitely more interesting I'm sure.

I see it on the map. Maybe I'll drive to it early in the morning before I head to Yellowstone. The south entrance is still closed, so I have to go through Idaho and into the west entrance.

Devil's Tower is a good one. The formation itself is impressive, but even more than that I just enjoyed the beauty of the country around it, and it's not as busy as a lot of the bigger parks.

You should go through the Black Hills and Badlands, too, as you make your way east. It's beautiful country. The Minuteman Missile site outside of Wall is pretty interesting, and there's a great Air Force Museum in Rapid City if you're into that kind of thing.

Yellowstone yesterday. I was amazed by the hot springs everywhere and of course saw Old Faithful. Much of the park was still closed, but I still didn't drive all the roads I could. The place is huge and my time is a bit limited. Spent the night in Livingston and will stop at Devils Tower on the way to Rapid City. Two nights there so tomorrow I'll take in what I can of the Black Hills area, Mt Rushmore and maybe Crazy Horse.

It sounds like an amazing trip, especially the Western part.

I've been to Zion a few times, but always in the off or shoulder season. Did the Narrows hike with large chunks of ice still around?

Yellowstone is just special. The hot springs are so unique and amazing to see in person. One of those places where you can't see anything similar anywhere else. That and insane wildlife everywhere.

Devils Tower today was far better than I expected! So impressive and making it even better was watching three climbers while I was there. Took lots of pictures and video. I'll post pictures after i get home probably. I could even hear the climbers talking. Funny how sound travels. On top of that, I heard a conversation between an older couple and three climbers who had just come down. Young....probably mid 20's. A guy who was guide and two girls. I was very impressed. No fear in youth I suppose.

I asked a ranger about climbers. He said they've had about 6000 climbers and 7 deaths. Not bad odds. I was surprised to hear there are about 200 trails up and then all have to repel down.

The Silver Dollar no longer does lamb bacon. I ended up getting a strip steak that was very good!

Saw Devils tower and it was amazing! An incredible take and took a ton of pictures.

Drove through Custer park today. Although I'd seen a bunch of bison, today I saw buffalo in the park.

Today was also Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse day.

Seeing Rushmore was very emotional for me. Despite having seen pictures of it, seeing it in person brought it all together. An experience of a lifetime!
