Kolab Canyon (part of Zion) is right on I15 and is really worth the effort.

Resources for the four corners states. These will help you get off the beaten path. konata88 mentioned slot canyons around Zion, there are a ton of them all over southern Utah. These may help. (Or they may end up being a rabbit hole!)

Typically not open until late June or July.

Carhenge near Alliance NE and Strategic Air and Space Museum west of Omaha. The National Museum of Military Vehicles in Dubois MT, east of Jackson. Both museums are large, well done attractions.

I was going to suggest staying on the gas from the Mississippi River to the Indiana state line. But bendable may have another thought. Smile

I believe you’re referring to Dubois, Wyoming. You would pass by my old ranger station, Blackrock, at the western foot of Togwotee Pass, but that’s out of your way if your plan is to leave Yellowstone through the north gate straight up to Livingston. Many winters ago, I dated a young woman (I was young too) who worked at Chico Hot Springs in Pray, MT. Paradise Valley up to Livingston is a pretty place too.

Will you be in the S2000?

Cody WY east entrance to Yellowstone a must visit the Buffalo Bill gun museum. I talked to a guy who was an insurance rep who insured the contents. He said what you see above ground is 1/3 of what is below ground. You will get firearm overload my eyes started glazing over after 5 hrs.

212 south of RedLodge known as the Beartooth Highway. It’s still marked as closed. So that might not be an option. Elevation over 10,000 ft

Beartooth

I’ll second Cody, Wyoming the museum is fantastic. The Irma Hotel, meh. There’s an ice cream parlor on the min street that is fantastic with locally made huckleberry ice cream. Cassie’s is a former brothel turned into a steak house and bar.

If you go through Shoshone, Wyoming check out Yellowstone Drug. Old style drug store complete with a soda fountain.

Virginia City, Montana, the territorial capital of Montana. State historical park with a lot of the original buildings and history. Learn why the Montana State Troopers have the numbers 3-7-77 on their shoulder patches.

Have fun, gotta’ admit kinda’ envious of your trip.

You're getting a lot of good advice, some might take you way out of your way. I live near Zion, in Springdale there are good places to eat, Oscar's Cafe for any meal and Park House Cafe for breakfast. I think you're going to have to deal with lines for the shuttle, it's worth it. Be sure to do the Riverwalk (not the Narrows), it's 2 miles R/T, one of the best, Emerald Pools is easy to do, same day.

After Zion, don't take I-15 up to SLC.

The best route is 12. By far the best. It is a bit less direct but spectacular. Past Bryce, then up to Torrey and over to LOA. Then either 72 and up to Price and over to SLC, or from Loa take 24 and pick your choice of path over to 15 and SLC.

Alternatively, at the entrance to Bryce turn North on John's Valley Rd instead of south into Bryce. It is a scenic route. Beware cattle, as it is open range.

The Beartooth pass north out of Yellowstone is mandatory if it is open yet.

There's an outdoor static aircraft display at Hill AFB just north of SLC in Ogden. I don't recall if it is accessible 24/7, but when th3 museum is open it is an impressive collection. Inside the museum it is very good, if you are into aviation.

It may be a bit out of the way from a direct route to Jackson Hole, depending if you going up 15 into Idaho, but there are 2 interesting sites about an hour north of SLC. One is the Golden Spike national monument where the transcontinental railroad was completed in 1869. The museum is good but small. Starting May 1st they run two gorgeous steam engines daily. You can drive some of the original road bed in your car. You can actually drive much of it all the way to Nevada but outside of the park there are many old spikes remaining and you'll probably get a flat tire. Inside the park is safe.

The other attraction is a free 24/7 outdoor display of rockets at the Thiokol facility.

Go north out of SLC on I-15 to Brigham City, head west on 83. You're now on or next to the original RR route. In about 15 minutes (very approximate from my memory) turn left at the sign for Golden Spike. About 10 minutes to the parking lot.

When you leave, backtrack to 83 and turn left (north). In just a couple of miles the rocket display is on your right. From there keep north a few miles to get to the interstate.

Well, my suggestion is nowhere as scenic or beautiful as the sites that others have mentioned, but in Clearfield PA I visit Grice's Gun Shop. They also have a smallish but nice automobile museum and a couple of fair to good diners in town. Not too far off the I-80 exit.

If you're hungry when you get there, Denny's Beer Barrel Pub has a couple of Burger Challenges that they are known for in the area. I think they require advance notice for those though because of the size of the burgers.

I mean, it's not Zion or Bryce Canyon, but heck EVERYONE goes there. Smile

Another +1 on the Buffalo Bill museum!
Huge, HUGE gun collection that you will drool over!
There’s also a few Remmingtons (the sculptures, as well as the guns) that are beautiful as well.

Sorry, you're correct it is Bald1 that has the S2000. It would be fun to do the trip in a sports car though.

I know a fellow (single) who when he retired bought a used Miata in Winter and went over the whole car servicing it. Come Spring he drove to the US's 4 corners as well as zig zagging through much of the middle, returning to VA in mid Fall. Said the top was only up in rain which wasn't often and he stayed in campgrounds most of the time. After returning he sold the Miata for a little more than he bought it for so his only costs were gas, a dozen motel nights, campground fees, and a set of tires.

+1 on Badlands NP, there is a loop road off of I-90, that gives a nice quick viewing. My wife will not allow us to drive by. The Mammoth Site is quite interesting if your into archaeological digs, it’s indoors if that makes a difference.

Scott’s Bluff in NE. part of the Morman Trail. Pompey Pillar is 30 odd miles outside Billings about 5 minutes off I-94, Still see where Clark of Lewis & Clark fame carved his name into sandstone, it’ll kill an hour if you let it. Great leg stretching spot if you need it.
