Obesity is an added layer of protection when it comes to bullets, pun intended. I’ve seen a few instances where the bullet penetrates the skin and subsequently scythes along the fascia not penetrating the peritoneal cavity where the vital organs are located. Again, not common, but I’ve seen it multiple times over the past few years. Typically it’s with smaller rounds like .22, .25acp or .32acp but I’ve seen some larger calibers as well. Typically FMJ rounds but I’ve been surprised a few times by the underwhelming performance of quality self defense rounds.

Build a man a fire and keep him warm for a night, set a man on fire and keep him warm the rest of his life.

I’ve wondered about BMI as well. It certainly adds a new dimension, perhaps, to the 9mm vs 40S&W debate.

Carrying a double rifle with hard solids as one would use on cape buffs seems a bit much.

Seriously tho, Physics sucks. Faster and heavier bullets result in a lot more felt recoil slowing down accurate follow up shots. So pick your poison.

Of course you’re right about physics. But generally, I think the recoil criticism of the 40 S&W is generally overstated. My P229 and Walther PPQ M2 are not difficult to control and follow-up with. My Glock 27 was horrible but my HK P2000sk was just fine.

We had an OIS about3 years ago where the fat turd shot at 2 of our guys. One of them returned the favor by putting a round of .223 62 grain Speer Good Dot in him. Hit him in the fat belly. Fat Turd lived. Round expanded like it was supposed to and was trapped in belly fat.
