"Deranged Florida Woman Charges Police Officer with a Knife Following Multiple Hit-And-Run Incidents and Pays an Expected Price (VIDEO)" Bodycam footage has emerged showing the moment a Florida woman made a near-fatal mistake by taking a knife to a gunfight with a police officer. As WJHG reported on Tuesday, the Port St. Joe Police Department released bodycam footage showing the moment a woman was shot multiple times after charging a police officer with a 16-inch fillet knife. WMBB notes that the bodycam shows not only footage of the shooting but also events that led up to the August 15 incident. For example, the woman was involved in several hit-and-run incidents. The footage also shows officers trying to disarm her with a taser. These efforts fail, and then she forces one officer to make a split-second life-or-death decision. The woman then jumps out of the car with the knife and charges like a maniac toward the police sergeant. He responds by unleashing gunfire, dropping her to the ground. “She came at me with a knife, what the h*ll did you expect me to do?” the policeman says to witnesses. Every cop's worst nightmare

She was shot twice and dropped. But one news article said she was treated and discharged in the same day. Does that raise questions about the efficacy of the 9mm?

My first thought as well. The threat was ended so I guess it got the job done but it doesn't make me feel too warm and fuzzy.

It raises nothing, when we don't even know where she was hit. Q

Got popped and dropped. Looks like it worked to me. Death doesn't have to be the final outcome for it to work.

Yep. And if it had been winter with psychopotomus donned with heavy winter gear? If I were LEO, I'd go with a 10mm.

Agreed! Some must have a different definition of "worked". ... stirred anti-clockwise.

Why in the hell did they let this situation go on for several hours? This is hands-off policing resulting in its predictable outcome. My understanding of the situation: The initial call came in about a lady trying to get away from a repo driver. The repo is a civil matter that we wouldn't get involved in, but if she's driving recklessly/making threats/etc. we'd respond. Apparently they did, determined that her plates were expired (separate, independent PC for a traffic stop) and attempted to make a traffic stop, but she wouldn't stop. Here that is felony resisting with a vehicle. So they followed her all over the neighborhood for a while at low speed. At some point during that she hit something and left the scene, but the property owner didn't want to pursue charges for the hit and run. Eventually the female sergeant (presumably the same one who ended up shooting her a few hours later) told other officers to stop following her. She got the suspect to stop and actually exit her vehicle for a bit and talk with her. She ordered her off the road but the lady just got back in her car and drove off. Why the sgt let her do that and didn't just wrap her up at this point I don't understand. It could have all been over right there. Instead it looks like the police department just broke contact with the crazy lady and let her go. A couple hours later crazy lady gets called in again as a reckless driver, officers find her, she's locked in the car with a knife, fancy new Taser 10 fails to be effective, and crazy lady comes out of the car and charges the cop, at which point she gets shot. Justified shoot, sure...but a situation that could have very likely been avoided with a little more decisiveness and force up front. This message has been edited. Well, the goal of using lethal force isn't to kill them. It's to stop the threat. This can potentially be achieved by either ending their desire to continue their attack, or by ending their ability to continue their attack. 9mm is capable of achieving either one when necessary. For a non-determined attacker, simply the shock/pain of being struck by gunfire can be enough to make them give up, even if the wound isn't severe enough to physically incapacitate or kill them. It appears that was the case here. It ended her attack, yet she was able to be patched up and released the same day. But with a determined attacker, especially if they're under the influence or mentally ill, they won't stop until you either disrupt a vital structure in their body rendering them unable to function, or you put enough holes in them to drop their blood pressure sufficiently to put them down and unable to function. Thus you keep firing until they're no longer a threat. That could require just 1 or 2 shots, as here, or maybe more.

Good synopsis, Rogue. If I have one problem with cops, not all but some, it's that they sometimes kill when it's not necessary. Sometimes it is necessary... but more often than not the threat can be stopped without someone getting killed. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Two rounds, threat ended, officer goes home safe. That’s about all you can ask for.

That was quite the video production by the police dept. The entire story all wrapped up in a bow.

Not particularly. Shot placement is the determining factor to stopping a threat, in this case two rounds someplace on the body ceased the threat. Given that she was discharged later on that same day, she may have checked herself out against the advice of physicians. What's of concern, the suspect was arrested for this incident, TWO weeks later. How is there a OIS and the principal subject of the stop, not arrested..what was the entire point of the incident? Clearly there's more to this than what's being reported.

It's stupid, but I could absolutely see this happening here. Our county jail refuses to absorb any liability whatsoever, and will absolutely err on the side of releasing a public safety risk rather than book them if there's any chance that they might have a medical incident in the jail. We have to take them to the hospital for medical clearance for pretty much anything, and even once they're cleared sometimes they won't accept them. I can definitely envision them refusing to book somebody with fresh bullet holes in them, released from the hospital or not. The general public would be appalled at the degree of stupidity present in the system if they saw how it actually works. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

With all that's going on in the world a bit of classic 9mm vs .40S&W vs .45ACP trash talking might be fun. I know its been done a million times, but .40S&W is king and everyone else is wrong. Beagle lives matter. ______ (\ / @\_____ / ( ) /O / ( )______/ ///_____/

"A Port St. Joe woman, shot twice by Port St. Joe police officers Friday evening at a residence on Avenue C, is recovering following the incident, the first such shooting by the city’s police since 1988. Tikila Walker, 41, was struck twice, once in the right arm and once in the pelvis, at around 6 p.m., after being hit about a half-dozen times by Taser darts fired by officers on the scene, who included three St. Joe officers and a Gulf County deputy sheriff, said Port St. Joe Police Chief Jake Richards. The chief said that Sgt. Sherrell Morrison, with 27 years of law enforcement service, and Officer Jerry Lee, with nine years experience, each fired their weapons and have been placed on administrative leave with pay. Neither the third Port St. Joe officer, Allan Edwards, with 17 years experience, nor the deputy sheriff, discharged their weapon." The Star
