So I had another cardioversion done today (shock my heart back into normal rhythm). When they punched the button my new Apple Watch dialed 911. Of course I was out so I missed all the fun. Pretty trippy. Hospital staff was quite surprised too.

That's actually kind of awesome. I doubt my Samsung watch cares about me nearly as much.

Curious: is it a setting on the apple watch that calls 911 for medical emergencies?

Separately, I wonder why they didn't ask you to remove the watch, given that they were introducing an electrical charge to your body.

We get a surprising amount of 911 calls from people's Apple watches. I wish we had a way of tracking it. Its several times a week.

Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago.

What does this mean?

I know about apple products...you mean while you were undergoing the cardioversion? And then, hilarity ensued with the staff assembled thereabouts? And they had to call off the amber lamps, and had difficulty explaining what happened?

I wouldn't want my smart watch autodialing 911 for any reason whatsoever. If you have a massive heart attack and your heart stops, a watch dialing 911 is just about useless. They have to find you, send a unit out to see what's wrong, which depending on where you are could take several minutes, after which you would be dead.

Depends on the meta data of the phone call to 911. Does it provide your location, the reason it called, and a call back number?

I hit a log truck yesterday on the way home, totaled my truck.

When the Leo showed up,and offered me his front seat to warm up, he asked if I called 911? I said no.

He laughed and said I was probably the only person who didn't.
