Hell with that.

We often see threads asking about the best woods gun... what’s the best for pesky sharks???

A bang stick (simply a stick with a 12 gauge shotgun shell on the end) with 00 Buck does a pretty good job on them. It's a small metal device that holds and fires a 12 gauge shell when you bang it hard against an object, and you usually mount it on a wood dowel 1-1.5" diameter, that's 6-10' long. A lot of sportfish used to carry them.

I was thinking depth charges, but sharks dart around too much. Smile

With all that jostling around I’d be concerned with dumping myself into the drink. Wonder if sharks are attracted to fresh human excrement?

There are other reasons for not kayak fishing in the open ocean.

During my time in Alaska, there was a story about a guy salmon fishing in the Gulf of Alaska and he hooked a salmon shark (look a lot like bull sharks) and he was towed 20 miles out to sea by the shark. Not sure why the fisher didn't cut the line, but being towed 20 miles into the frigid ocean can be deadly.

My youngest grandson spent a summer working as deckhand on a commercial fishing boat somewhere off the south Florida coast. They ran miles of line, floats, etc, and then went back to the other end and started checking to see what had hooked up.

They got a lot of sharks.

If it was not already dead, they shot it in the head with a 12 ga.

For that guy on the kayak, he should have had at least a spear. Stab the sucker with that and it would have departed.

Okay. I can understand hitting he shark but hitting him with the paddle ( I know it is the only thing he had, poor planning on his part) which is the one thing of two things (the other is the kayak) he will absolutely need to get back to shore.
