Our 5 year old daughter got jabbed in the eye today with a pencil. She was in her 3 year old brother’s bedroom when it happened, so we didn’t witness it.

She could see just fine but complained of light sensitivity and her eye “bothering” her. So we took her to urgent care who immediately sent us to the ER.

She has a ruptured / lacerated cornea (global rupture, I think it was?). They took her in for surgery within an hour or so and she’s currently being worked on now. Under general anesthesia Frown.

My wife is a mess and I’m just trying to stay strong here.

She could see just fine after the injury, so it seems that her vision isn’t at great risk. But the doctor did say infection is their biggest concern.

The doc said surgery should be 1-3 hours.

Please send any and all prayers for my little girl, Parker.

Has anyone else ever had this? How did it turn out?

I've had the full gamut of eye problems / eye surgeries throughout my life. From how you describe it, I feel very confident Parker will be just fine. This experience will be something she will always remember, but I believe she won't suffer any long term effects. She will be in our prayers.

Infection (endophthalmitis) would definitely be the primary concern with the injury you describe. Depending on how deep the wound was-if the lens was impacted-a cataract may develop.

They’ll get the cornea repaired, and there will probably be minimal loss of vision, and your daughter will have a cool story to tell.

Best wishes for an uncomplicated surgery and recovery!

Prayers to your family. I hope your wife (and you) are doing all right. Shit definitely happens, but it’s no fun when it happens to you or yours.

Sorry to hear that Copefree, prayers said. Hopefully by the time I'm writing this she's out of surgery with a successful surgery and the healing process goes best case scenario.
