Any teenager with a grow lamp and a handful of sub-standard seeds can run a successful pot business. Only a government could f-up the dope business. I struggle to name a single area where the government performs better than private enterprise.

"EVERYTHING the Left touches, it destroys" - Dennis Prager

"If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

Funny how the left went after the Tobacco industry for so many years. Yeah smoking causes cancer, but the incidence of cancer from 2nd hand smoke was pure junk science and propaganda used only to achieve a political goal.

That said I like not having to be around smoking. Unless I go to a 21 and up bar that allows smoking, I generally do not have to be around it. When I am in Asia people smoke everywhere, every bar, and restaurants don't have no-smoking sections. Airports and train stations are smoke-free. Tokyo station has these smoking rooms that look like aquariums and the smoke is so think it is like fog.

But now the same leftists want weed to be legal. Stands to reason that smoking weed will cause cancer too. Breathing any kind of smoke from combusted leaves can't be "good" for you, and I'm pretty sure we will find out in a couple decades what the long term health effects are. But you know what? I'd rather have to smell cigarette smoke than weed smoke.

Lefties seem to be very short sighted and greedy with spending issues but play the long game on social issues.

If they were smart, they’d have set minimal barriers to entering the legal side of business so it could become well established and put the Cartels out of business (at least pot).

Then raise taxes a tad, rake them in based on volume and save a ton of tax dollars on law enforcement no longer needed.

You're not kidding. My wife is a teacher, and she is looking at Hobby Lobby's wages continuing to climb. She is starting to question some of her life choices.

Yes, I've thought about this too. Strange paradox that I can't understand.

The left couldn't understand the simple pleasure of smoking, but they fully understand wanting to be high all day.

I can't understand the simple pleasures of smoking. I grew up with 2 parents who smoked (in the 1940s and 50s) and it was no pleasure to be around it. The smell, the ash trays, the people who just threw the butts on the ground--the whole experience. I'm glad it's been throttled back and I don't have to deal with it now. I will not associate with a weed smoker. Period.

The states and cities that have passed laws making the growing / selling / possesing / and smoking of the plant can go have sex with themselves for all I care. They voted for it and and everything that that entailed so now they can go live with their choices. My choice is to have nothing to do with anything in anyform of the "left handed smokes". They made their bed of roses now they can go sleep on the bed of thorns. ................................................ drill sgt.

My business partner also has a cannabis company in Washington State and business has been great. I am not sure what California is doing different but I believe cannabis has been profitable for Washington Sate.

I remember the articles early on, costs verses benefit. One may have to look at the total picture, negatives & all.

I remember those in favor touting all the $$ coming in. I never fell for it, thinking of the peripheral costs. Even in Vancouver, BC, they fell behind with the black market as they raised taxes on cigarettes & similar products.

As more States allow it, profit margins are diluted.

Yes, it's not the concept, it's the execution. Leave it to California to fuck up anything and everything and that includes sure things, like this.

Modify that down to about a year if it's the government of California...

I also was raised with 2 parents who smoked, in the 1940s and 50s and 60s. It didn't bother me in the slightest being around it even though we had houses in Alaska that were sealed pretty tightly against the weather so the smoke stayed inside.

I started smoking around the end of high school and always enjoyed it. I quit around 14 years ago because of 2 things, the anti smoking enmity that got to the point of being absurd and the cost of cigarettes.

I don't feel the urge to smoke any more, but I also don't care if anyone around me does. The smell isn't a good smell or a bad smell, it's just another smell to me and also to Mrs. Flash.

Now dope smokers are a whole different thing to me. The smell doesn't bother me, but the whole lifestyle of those who want to be high all day does. I don't want to be around people who aren't in their straight head.

Honestly, as much as the taxation issue, it seems like availability is a major driver pushing pot consumers in California to illegal (or, you know, state-illegal) sources.

In California, part of the pot legalization thing was that local governments could still ban retail pot sales, which of course many of them have.

Oregon has 16.5 pot shops per 100,000 people, California has 1.6 per 100,000 people.
