At least the whale didn't blubber about it.

I would attribute the whale "shaking its head" to it trying to dislodge the diver stuck in its mouth. It might not have been a head shake like humans do, but it can't exactly reach in there and pick its teeth like we can when we have an undesirable stuck in there.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

This is what stands out to me.

It is (IMO, of course) a plausible story. But, key changes to details like this are often 'tells' that the story may be BS.

I don't know if the story is believable, as I am not a Cetacean expert. According to Google, "Humpback Humpback whales feed on shrimp-like crustaceans (krill) and small fish, straining huge volumes of ocean water through their baleen plates, which act like a sieve."

I don't know if it's really plausible that a filter-feeder like a Humpback could physically ingest a human, even by accident (although, looking at that YouTube video on Page 1, it seems plausible). It just sounds hokey. I am not saying the guy is a liar, but I do have my suspicions. . .
