This was fun to watch with Tom Cruise and late night host James Corden ... I needed a laugh today and this gave me one. Smile

Serious question. Does the navy give them flight /carrier time to film in exchange for the free publicity or does the movie company pay the US navy back and the uptick in recruiting and free publicity a bonus ?

It seems like there’s some kind of federal law that states every comment about Tom Cruise has to be prefaced with something like, “Yeah, he’s crazy but…” Often there is no “but” to follow, only a declaration that he’s crazy. As near as I can tell, much of the controversy surrounding Cruise is related to his being an outspoken Scientologist. I don’t know shit about Scientology, or Cruise’s private life, I just know I’m rarely disappointed in the movies he’s involved in. At least he’s not public about his political ideology and for that I’m grateful.

I read somewhere that the Navy charged $11,000/hr for flight time

I certainly wouldn't expect the taxpayer to foot the bill.

I don't find Cruise to be a "crazy nut" or anything approaching this. I can think of a dozen other big name actors personalities that are far more objectionable than Tom Cruise (Sean Penn, Robert DeNiro, Will Smith, etc). From what I hear, the guy is hard-working, very professional, good to his crews and co-stars, and have never heard from his mouth anything political.

It's funny, I'm not a Cruise "fan", but I have seen a lot of his films, seemingly more than any other modern actor. The only other actors I have seen more of are John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart.

Why? The planes and pilots have to fly so many hours per month anyways.

^^^^^^^^^^^ I can attest to that....

Just got back from seeing it. Loved it! It is the perfect example of 1-how to make a movie, and 2-how to make a sequel.

For once, we got a movie that gave the fans what they wanted and was absent of all woke BS! I have been turned off to Tom Cruise for a while, but this movie got my respect back. I was watching some of the behind the scenes on YT and not only did TC play the mentor/instructor on the big screen, but he took in the new actors and mentored them through their training to be part of this movie. I didn't know he was a legit pilot in real life.

Jennifer Connelly was HAWT!

They (read: we) don't. The movie pays per flight hour and prep time.

The movie gets the aircraft and scene(s), the USG gets the recruiting.

Aircrew do not get the monthly flight hours. The get Chestier points. (Just like all those those guys in the backs rows during the hangar scene in Topgun during "class" (which they NEVER do/did)

We saw it last night it was raining in Gulf Shores so a good night to see Maverick.

We really liked it. Some good top gun references in the dialogue.

Was hoping for a cousin strawberry cameo or mention.

I’ll second that Jennifer Connolly still looks good.

Good on them, I saw the Taiwan flag on his jacket when we saw it Friday night and was confused as I recall this whole brouhaha:

For those wondering, C.W. Lemoine found and went over the entire contract from Paramount to the US Navy while filming with some redactions:

Sitting in the theater now waiting for it to start. There’s not many movies that will get me to go out. The recommendations here are responsible for today.

Just left the theater about an hour ago, I enjoyed it. Yes you have to put some reality aside but it’s a fun movie and I think Tom Cruise did a fine job of acting and entertaining. Well worth the $10 I spent to see it.

Totally worth it. Nice to see a movie that doesn’t kiss the Chinese ass. You don’t need to put aside any more reality than you did for the original Top Gun.
