I'll repeat that. I have great interactions w/ LE but sometimes it's the one interaction that makes me want to remind them of some things.

Lots of people fly who don’t own airplanes. Students learning usually rent. Even once one gets a license, renting is often the most financially prudent approach.

That said, one of the flight schools at the local airport for years was PCF, which was short for Pigs Can Fly. It was a partnership where most of the owners were current or retired LEOs.

It was one of those "Stop, or I'll say Stop again" situations.

I guess use of force was off the table?

To what end, though? He'll be easy to identify and locate under controlled circumstances. Public safety is not necessarily served by a pursuit and potential use of force.

I did a search on the story to see if there were any updates. A Texas news station headline says OPD officer was fired but the text of the story says he was relieved of duty. Another headline said he was suspended. I'm willing to bet he will resign before he is fired when all is said and done.

All he needed to do was identify the driver by squad number and by body camera. Takes all doubt out in court.

I get the professional courtesy thing to a point. However in all my years I refused to play that card. I received a speeding ticket by an Ohio state trooper while driving to upstate NY.
I wrote one ticket to a brother once 45/25 school zone. He slipped his business card with his DL, I slipped back to him the card his DL and a citation and my school zone explanation nothing else said about his employment. He thanked me and left.

There are quite a few cops around here, who fly. Some own airplanes, some are in partnerships, some in flying clubs, some rent, but it seems that there's a pretty good police presence at the airport and I frequently see police vehicles (usually Ford Explorers) parked at hangars. This is regarded as A Good Thing, as it tends to discourage vandalism and theft.

Until he retired from LE and moved north to take a job flying jet charters, there was an Orange County Lieutenant who rented my V-tail frequently, so his work vehicle was often parked next to my hangar..

I hope they hang that guy. Not just because he was speeding. We all make serious errors in judgment from time to time, and while he should be punished for the speeding, it shouldn't be career ending.

His attitude however, should be career ending. I don't want to be pulled over by that ass, or worse, have him respond to a domestic, or defensive shooting.

There is no telling what a guy with that attitude, law enforcement authority, and firepower will do, especially when jacked on adrenaline, PEDs, or his 14th RedBull.

That is the road, notice all the grid lines, those are roads that cross Florida Ave.
There are no lights and stop signs on the red path except at the end where he ran the stop sign and turned left.

Most intersections and driveways are heavily foliaged and require the driver to pull out some to see traffic, it's in the country still so to speak.

BTW if you are in the area, the Black Hammock has air boat rides looking for gators, they have a pen of live gators out front, and serve pretty good blacken gator... among other things, Ice cold beer being one. It's pure Florida Cracker fishing camp.

I agree. His attitude harms respect for law enforcement. He's the type that needs weeding out.

No, I don't see it that way. Lights, siren, and probably greater focus on what he was doing than the guy "going to work, my man." Beyond that, deputy was doing his job, and only likely to do that kind of speed on that road in furtherance of his job. If left alone, OPD boy would probably make a habit of it.

Agree deputy was running lights, and in the lawful pursuit of a high speed vehicle,

Going to guess he already made a habit, due to heavy construction in the area he was doing that every day, same way, and someone finally reported it to SCSD and they finally got him.

No, that is his job and responsibility.say it was not a cop car, just average joe doing 80 on a suburban 45 road. Should a LEO pursue? Of course he should.
