This would happen to me from time to time, including when I had a dude stopped for speeding and I had him out of the car to see if he had been drinking. A marked OSHP patrol car passed us at about 100 or so. I kicked the guy loose (he was sober too) with best wishes. I then monitored their frequency to see if a big emergency of some type was going on. All quiet. Called my Sgt. Who called the OSHP Sgt. And I told my Capt, who in turn called Post Commander.
It was resolved properly. Short suspension for the guilty party.

Not a big deal in this case. I live in the area; my house is in Seminole County, maybe 50 yards north of the Orange County & Orlando City line. Orange and Seminole counties sort of blur together on the north side of the Orlando metroplex. When running errands, or going to work, or to the grocery store, I might cross county (and city) lines a bunch of times, back and forth between the same jurisdictions.

Many LE guys have take-home vehicles. I see a few of them from both counties parked at Our Little Airport, where some of the officers keep their airplanes and come out to fly when they are off duty. I also see a few from various departments parked overnight in the driveways in my residential neighborhood.

Around here, take home policies for most of the PDs are generally just that you must live X miles or less from the station. Not that you cannot take them out of that city, or that county.

So it's not uncommon for take home units to be driven home to other neighboring cities and counties.

Alexander Shaouni should most definitely not have any job in any aspect of law enforcement, anywhere, IMO.

Amen. Some criminals wear badges, and the sooner he is fired and prosecuted the better.

Wow, just wow.

As I watched, that appeared to be any rural road in outer Orlando. But then I read HRK's post and said it was Florida Ave. So I went back and watched again.

I know that road well, I ride my bike down that road on a regular basis. No shoulder at all. Lots of blind driveways. The only reason it is 45 mph is because it is so rural. To do 80mph on that road, freaking insane. To be the deputy, going 100 mph to catch him? I cannot even imagine how 100 mph would feel on that road.

Or some animals think they're more equal. I don't suspect this ends well for the Orlando guy.

I support law enforcement.

I also support the penalties for law enforcement being stricter than the general public. They have privileges in a dangerous line of work, and we should (and do) accord them the benefit of the doubt in many situations.

However, when someone in law enforcement abuses those privileges or commits a criminal act, lock them up and throw away the key.

Like any position of authority, the job has some privileges, but those privileges exist to enable you to deal with the responsibilities.

Bingo, the bottom line right there.

That officer is probably a stick of dynamite at best. Getting him off the force is the best thing for the people he so falsely swore to protect.

Why are we getting sidetracked with whether this Orlando cop was entitled to take his police car home?

That isn't really the issue, is it?

Opd in deep doo doo

"Court records show he was charged with fleeing a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, speeding and resisting arrest.

An unsigned Orlando Police Department statement said they were notified Friday of the incident involving Shaouni. He has since been “relieved of duty” ahead of the ongoing criminal case against him as well as an internal investigation.

That was the only thing that gave me pause watching the video. I guess I'm happy he caught the guy and we all saw the OPD cop's true colors, but that Seminole deputy stated he had to do 100 mph to catch him - blowing by the same blind driveways and side streets as the guy do 85. He is a very, very lucky boy.

^^^ From the article,

quote:
In a statement to NewsNation affiliate WFLA-TV, the Orlando Police Department said, “Officer Shaouni has been relieved of duty pending the Seminole County Sheriff’s criminal investigation and OPD’s Internal Affairs investigation.”

But, the so-called journalist took the liberty of writing that he was "fired". He wasn't. At least not yet. But, my bet is he probably won't be.

Late for work is absolutely NO EXCUSE for almost twice the posted speed limit.... As shown If that is the officers attitude to a fellow officer then what is his attitude towards the citizens that he encounters... Pursuing officer should have terminated the chase and called in to his department as well as the other department about this incident.. And followed up on outcome and not let it get swept under the rug. One way or another this is a rouge tyrant and needs to be removed totally from the police dept or any public service job. ....... drill sgt.

I once had some knob job tailgating me on a dark state highway as did roughly the speed limit. There were limited passing opportunities. After we reached a traffic light he passed so I began to tailgate him a bit. He then gave me a flash of his hidden light bar and sped away.
