Probably not a jazz standard as Sister Rosetta Tharpe was known for her gospel guitar and is now acknowledged as the Godmother of Rock and Roll. But the style is very jazz-like and draws you in. Its beautiful rendition of 'This Train'.

The music is not so difficult so the thing is to translate the tempo to that shimmer and pace.

I really suck but that was one song that I could learn and play without terribly offending other peoples ears.

I've been working on one standard and a couple of "pop" songs with jazz chords.

A bit different but take a look at doing a guitar rendition of any of the cuts from Miles Davis' Kind of Blue classic album.

What a great album, bald1! Might be over my head, but I'll take a look at it.

I spit coffee at "love theme from Deliverance"

Learn the melody line first. Learn the chords. Use a metronome and record the chords.
Play melody over chords.

Trying to play chord melody like Joe Pass is effing difficult for us duffers.

"Summertime"
"Satin Doll"
"All of Me"
"Black Orpheus /aka/ Manha de Carnaval"
"Fly me to the Moon /aka/ In Other Words"
"Willow weep for Me"

Less is more.
