Knowing is Half the Battle |
My son just started Cub Scouts, he is a Tiger. I am an Eagle Scout. I know we had the discussion a couple months ago here on SF about the new "Scouts BSA" and Cub Scouts became co-ed last year or so, but my understanding that was co-ed packs, same sex dens. Well, my son's den now has a girl in it. I think she is the only girl in the whole pack of 30 or 40, so a den all of her would be pretty lame. Our 4yr old daughter may want to join Cub Scouts some day, so I am not necessarily harping at the co-edness, it is what it is and is still a net positive, but what are the thoughts on the situation from the SF braintrust? Anybody else running into this? Just let it slide but keep a watchful eye?

My girlfriend is my son's den leader. She says that females have to be in a separate den according to the rules, but are allowed to participate with (work on requirements) with the boys. There's supposed to be a minimum of 3 to start a den. Our pack will likely start seeing females this upcoming year. They didn't have 3 of them this year to establish their den. At the open house there were more girls at the (formerly) Boy Scout table than there were at the Girl Scout table.

So if they don't have 3 they can't join because no den or do they put them in a co-ed den contrary to their own rules and when they have 3 split them off into their own den, separating them from their friends that are boys in the den? Both bad signals to girls. What a flustercuck.

She says the original rule was 3 to form which is why we don't have a female den this year. She just looked it up and said they apparently dropped that rule, which may explain what you have going on.

This is the exact kind of crap they are hoping for. Boy's in boy scouts Girl's in girl scouts. Was not good enough for them. And I am not talking about the kids. You can say what you want. This garbage wasn't their idea. But planted in their head. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

So...I assume they dropped the rule about co-ed dens then too? I'm sure glad they thought this whole thing through before rolling it out. Our daughter does ballet and it seems she has fun "girl time" there, it is co-ed in the next age group and above, and there are some boys in those classes. Right now our kids just want to do what the other one is doing. At this age, gender is a non-issue, but dens usually advance together, at what point and how do they tell this girl she has to be in a different den?

This is how corporate Boy Scouts plan to keep their profit margins. Membership has been slipping over the years and this is best they can come up with. It also keeps them from having to spend big bucks to defend lawsuits from malcontents.

I dunno. I remember in the 60s (I know) there was a big toodoo in Berkeley (I know) over one of the earliest traditional karate clubs, which was all male at the time. Just at the time when sexual equality was a foremost issue in our country. My initial inclination was to keep some things separate, and something like karate was considered one of the last remaining male bastions. Now I can't imagine a dojo without women participants. Times change, attitudes change.

My son is a Lion Cub Scout. His pack has girls. Nobody seems to care or hardly notice. Bruce "The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with." -Douglas Adams “It is just as difficult and dangerous to try to free a people that wants to remain servile as it is to try to enslave a people that wants to remain free." -Niccolo Machiavelli The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all. -Mencken

Yes. Boy Scouts of America (whatever its corporate name is now) is quita a large organization, and from what I'm told has been "economically challenged" for some time now. [/drift] God bless America.

4-H clubs aren't the Boy Scouts of America. See, it's right there in the name.

A Scout is Loyal... unless it's not profitable to be loyal. Then, it's OK to change course. A Scout is Brave... unless lawsuits are threatened. If THAT happens, retreat.

I have taught machine shop/welding/casting at the college level. Some classes had females, some didn’t. There was a definite difference in the flavor of the classes. For some guys another opportunity to discuss girls and acceptable behavior is valuable. Forced, mixed classes changes that. Wussification of the men, part of the progressive plan? Is that a likely result of girls in boy scouts? Porta-potties on the hiking trails?

We had a girl in our Boy Scouts troop. They just called her "Bruce". She went hiking, camping, did everything just as well as the boys. She wound up marrying my older brother and have been married for 45 years. She's unstoppable, super smart, talented beyond imagine, raised perfect children, the best cook I have ever known. At 65 I bet she could out canoe anyone still. She was never an "official" Scout, but she is everything the Scouts were all about. ____________________________ Eeewwww, don't touch it! I am the Den leader for the tigers locally, I have a girl in my Den. Same situation where there were not enough girls, her dad likes cub scout more than girl scouts as we get outside more. She studies better than the boys but I noticed at our recent campout that the boys did what boys do....go and recreate the lord of the flies She did not join them.... I have to say she is adorable in her little scout uniform. Personally I think boys need to be boys so far her presence has not effected that. I treat her the same as the boys and will continue to do so.

If you see me running try to keep up |
That’s exactly what they want everyone to do, just accept it and forget principles. If it offends anyone then it cannot be tolerated and must be torn down and rebuilt to suit everyone. We can no longer have men’s/boys/girls/women’s groups because they exclude people and offend them. Why have rules and stipulations for any group? If I want to join Mensa but my IQ is too low that shouldn’t matter, IQ tests are unfair. If I want to enter an Ivy league school but I failed high school why should that exclude me? How about the battered women’s shelter trying to exclude men? We can’t have that, men must be allowed in despite the fact they might gain entry to harm the battered women. On one hand I see no issue if a girl prefers the activities of Boy Scouts over the Girl Scouts. On the other hand I see where this is going down the road and I don’t think it’s for the better of society. Who cares what I think anyway? I’ve probably offended someone just expressing my viewpoint anyway....

Peace through superior firepower |
Every cub scout, boy scout, eagle scout, and all the male den leaders, pack leaders, etc should quit and let all the girls and women fucking have the organization. Quit and never go back Adapt? ADAPT????? TO BEING OVERRUN??????? Just leave. Start a new organization which states in the FIRST SENTENCE OF THE CHARTER THAT THIS IS A MALE ONLY ORGANIZATION. I am sick and tired of this fucking horse shit. ____________________________________________________ "I am your retribution." - Donald Trump, speech at CPAC, March 4, 2023
