Anyone have an educated opinion on them? Never really given them much thought until I got an email from Jomashop about a sale on them.

Look sharp and look a lot like certain Seiko models.

What say you?

Nothing fancy but work. They run 40% off sales on their website pretty frequently. I have a Diver 1000 Gen 1 that I've had for a bit. Got the shark mesh bracelet and also rubber strap. Wear it for a field watch and while running fishing charters. Solid for the 40% off price. Might be a little thick for some. That being said, I think I wear my Luminox 4221 ANU watch (from David) more for those purposes.

Email sent to you.

I got a Master 1000 when I sent in my Seamaster for an extended service last year. A lot of watch for under $200. Fit and finish is solid as a rock but edges are a little sharp on the case and bracelet. Seiko NH35 movement which is nothing fancy but solid. Hacking and handwinding. Hour indices are 3d and date window is aligned well.

And they look great imo, if you're looking for a tough diver look.

Ask the experts!
We really do have a great community here. There's a bunch of people with a vast array of knowledge.
I haven't heard anything bad about Deep Blue yet, but then again, I'm an idiot.

As said above, there's an active watch discussion thread with some very knowledgeable folks.

That being said, I'm a fan particularly of their lesser common quartz variants...I currently have 3 DB's. High value watches if you like big & beefy diver-style and want more than the normal 100-200M rating. I have a Juggernaut III on bracelet that gets wrist time pretty often.

They're also USA based.

Have you considered Ball watch? When it comes to tritium and quality it’s hard to beat a Ball watch with a nice Swiss automatic movement. They are not going to be as affordable but they will hold their value better than a deep blue.

Every few months Jomashop will run spectacular ($500+ discounts) sales on their already competitively priced Ball Watches.

The 66 tritium vials on this watch glow so bright you can use this watch to navigate a very dark hallway. This one is rated for 200m water resistance too.

Well thanks. I just ordered the ridiculously large 'Batman' with the black face. At 50% off for moms day I decided I could not pass this up. $267 w/tax and free ship.

I wasnt really looking for a watch but a good tritium watch to remember my mom with, just seemed to work. Thanks you guys.

^^ We're always happy to help you spend your $$. Big Grin

I think unless you get into paying full-retail for their really higher end Swiss autos, you're talking different ends of a $$ spectrum for DB vs high(er) end watches...

If you have the patience to save the funds to get something much higher end...the DB will serve you well in the mean time. As said before, they're a high-value watch.

Kind of the quandary many of us 'non-rich' folks fall into...have a number of nicer more 'economical' watches or go 'all in' on something really 'high end.'

The correct answer is 'Yes.' (Good either way).

For me, I'd rather have modest collection to swap around/play with rather than just one. When I win the lottery, I'll probably add an Omega to the watch case just to check that off the bucket list..

I'm a Marathon Man myself, but I don't recall ever reading anything negative about Deep Blue, and to me that is saying something with as much time as I spend looking at watch porn on the internet.

Let us know what you think!

I bought a Master 1000 a couple of years ago as well. I agree that it is a good value and a tough watch. The lume on mine was not as bright as what I saw on the website but again, it's still a good value.

[thread drift] I have a Marathon that was issued to me in the CG, it’s an automatic....what’s the difference in the price of one of those vs a Rolex Submariner all about? Is the Rolex made by pixies or something? I can’t see the $1000 marathon vs the$140000 Rolex....but I’m cheap as fuck so....

Rolex - don't get me wrong, there's a couple very nice ones I'd gladly take if they were giving them away.

But yeah, you're mostly buying prestige...it's the 'I make enough I can by a $10K+ watch.'

Quite frankly, unless I just won some absolutely obscene power ball, like taking home over $200M, and could like fires with $100 bills, I couldn't see myself walking around with a $10K+ watch. It's just not me...I bang into too much stuff, and even with a couple hundred dollar watch it still makes me cringe with a bit of spontaneous Tourette's...

I think for folks that want more than the $50 Casio/Timex, DB offers and excellent alternative to Seiko, Citizen, etc...

Difference in a Rolex and a Marathon? In 10 years the Marathon will be worth 1/4 what you paid and the Rolex will be worth the same or more than you paid.

The two most expensive watches I have owned was a Resco Patriot Gen 1. I even had it rebuilt with the new movement prior to selling it. I do miss that watch.

I also had a Marathon, and I sold it as well. I also miss that watch.

So the Deep Blue is satisfying to me as it allows me to get a quality watch and I can sit back and decide what I want to do next. Personally, I am captivated by a tourbillon but dang, now your talking real money.

The thing about Rolex, particularly the stainless models, you simply cannot find them right now. The only way to get them is to buy them on the gray market for three or four or six thousand more than retail. If you can get one from a dealer, it basically requires constant ass kissing or a history with them.

There are a few theories, wealthy Chinese buying them up, dealers selling directly to grey market (one got busted recently), and the obvious that it’s the most recognized “I’ve made it” watch that people go for. But I’ve been reading about authorized dealers being out for months with just a trickle coming in.

Me? Not a Rolex guy. If somebody gave me an artic Explorer II I’d definitely take it, but I’ve got my limits...and $15,000+ is well above it.
