We are about to move into a townhouse with very little yard, so I'm looking at battery operated lawn mowers. I searched and didn't find a discussion, although I saw one comment by V-Tail that he used an EGO mower. From my research, I'm leaning toward an EGO, even though it's probably more than I need. Most likely I'll add a hedge trimmer and either sidewalk edger or weedeater, as I do have bushes that need to be trimmed "flat", and some sidewalk to deal with. Anyone have experience, good or bad, with particular brands? Is it worth paying a little more for the brushless models, which I think are more effiecient and probably have better longevity? I don't really have a need for large high voltage power tools, so I'm not inclined to get Milwaukee, DeWalt, etc., so leaning toward more of a mower first company, like EGO or Greenworks My cordless drills are 12 volt and they suit me fine. Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

I have heard on this forum that EGO is highly regarded. ____________________________ NRA Life Member, Annual Member GOA, MGO Annual Member

I have an EGO self propelled walk behind and get about an hour out of it if I mow weekly. I mulch the grass as well. This kit https://egopowerplus.com/21-in...elf-propelled-mower/ I also have a leaf blower from them and gets used a lot for cleaning out the hatchback to get the loose dog fur and dust out and light fluffy snow moving. I am in my third year with the Ego. 100% satisfied with it. Front yard is medium-small, it is handled easily without a battery re-charge. Back yard is larger, it needs a re-charge about two thirds of the way through the job, but at 85 years old I'm ready for an air-conditioned break and a GatorAde by the time the battery runs low. The battery recharges faster than I do, so it's not a limiting factor. Downside: manufactured in China, but I did not find a comparable mower that's not. Not sure where the Stihl mower is made, the Stihl website is not clear on this question. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Well ,my neighbor went green a couple years back. I loaned my old craftsman eager one this past summer as the greenie died and the batteries will not charge, they have had it with the greenie as the batteries are $145.00 a pop,not knocking anyone elses liking ,just the facts as I have experienced them.

I have a Stihl and like it. I also have trimmer and blower from them. All use same battery which is a plus. I can do all my yard work with a single battery on a single charge. I would gladly buy them all again. Highly recommended for a small to medium size yard. I only have about 1/5 acre.

I know you said to shy away from DeWalt, but my mower came with two huge batteries, and they also power my string trimmer, hedger, and blower with out recharging on my smallish/medium yard. Package deal at home depot, like $850ish for all four. ___________________________ He looked like an accountant or a serial-killer type. Definitely one of the service industries.

I have nothing against DeWalt, and I'll definitely look at that. It's just that there are a lot of the big battery drills, impacts, saws, etc. out there, and I don't care about having my lawn mower battery work my circular saw. At least I didn't think I did.

Another vote for EGO. I changed out all of my gas stuff for EGO a year or two ago. They work great, and for the size of my driveway/yard, we’re not running out of battery at all either. 7.5ah battery in the lawnmower and two (usually) 5ah batteries in the snowblower get the job done. This message has been edited. I went Ryobi 40v push mower and blower 2 seasons ago and have been completely satisfied. Don’t miss the gas mower and blower at all. So quiet no need for earpro. Have a 1/4 acre lot and have more than enough charge with the one battery it comes with. Also same for blower and battery it came with. I looked at EGO and Ryobi, both at HD then. EGO has gone to Lowe’s now. Both are good and highly rated. Was leaning towards EGO but after comparing they are pretty much same stuff. Ryobi will cost less. Ryobi was lighter. I have Ryobi 18v power tools, for over 15yrs and have had no issues with them. I went with Ryobi for cost savings, past experiences and that it’s a main stay/flagship HD product. So it’ll be around forever. Just like their 18v power tool line their 40v line should be around for many many years and also will be backwards compatible with any future 40v tools. The mower is very light compared to a gas power one. No fuel, oil or filters to fuss with. Cuts very well. 2 seasons before going battery mower and blower I replaced my Weedeater line trimmer with a Kobalt line trimmer 40v. Love it also. Again no earpro needed and just as powerful as a gas version. No oil/gas mix to deal with either. I did not like the Ryobi options at the time. Actually went with a Ryobi and returned due to lack of performance. Tried the Kobalt and have been completely satisfied Next door neighbor last year went with Ryobi 18v mower and has liked it. His yard is some size as mine. Two neighbors other end of street with yards twice as big have gone with EGO and enjoy them also. Both went with self propelled push mowers. One also did their trimmer and blower. Can’t go wrong with either brand. I would recommend hands on at the stores and choose which one fits you best and your budget. HD usually has really good sales for the start of spring and then again for Father’s Day on Ryobi tools. " like i said,....i didn't build it, i didn't buy it, and i didn't break it."

I have a Ryobi riding mower that has 4-12 volt batteries in it. Have had it 3 years and it has been problematic. The first year I only used it for a couple months and it did great. It would have 80% charge left after mowing my acre. The second year the batteries would only last for about 1/3 of the yard. I don't look forward to using it this year. I have tested all 4 of the batteries and they show as good. Unless the controller or something else has gone bad, I don't know what else to do. At least if it was gas powered I could troubleshoot it.

Don't have a mower but did give up my stihl blower and trimmer for the ego versions. Been very pleased with them.

Partial dichotomy |
I'll also soon be in the market for a battery mower and didn't know DeWalt made one. Since I already have a 20V cordless drill and leaf blower of theirs, I'll probably go that route. Thanks for the info. BTW, the 20V batteries are quite small....not bulky.

Thank you Very little |
Have EGO trimmer, edger, pole saw, blower and just picked up the EGO 14 inch Chain Saw, all the products work well, haven't had one issue with the devices. Batteries have done well first set went 5 years and replaced them on sale when Home Despot got out of EGO for $99 each, a steal. Neighbor has the top of the line EGO lawn mower, it's quiet, works well, has the big battery, he can do the whole yard and a bit more on one charge. He likes the no gas/oil maintaining issue, just pull the battery and charge. recently had to warranty two batteries I bought, as long as you setup an account and register your EGO products online, be sure to have the receipt as it is a requirement for them to show you are the original owner and date of purchase, then you are good to go. A week later an a new 2.5 showed up on the doorstep..

Looking for feedback on the Oregon LM400 mower. Already have their 40v string trimmer for six seasons with zero issues. ------------- The sadder but wiser girl for me.

We sell EGO equipment at my store. In two years I’ve seen one item returned and it was their snow blower. I’ve seen a lot of other brands returned for various reasons. This observation is worth exactly what you paid for it.

I switched to a Greenworks 40v system 4-5 years ago. I have the compact mower (16” deck), straight shaft weed eater (compatible with the Ryobi accessories and I keep the edger attachment on it), a smal chainsaw, and a polesaw. Those all work great. I also had the 40v blower but went through 3 of them during the original warranty period. The power button kept wearing out. I gave up on the blowers and use a Ryobi 18v for that. But overall I’m very pleased with the 40v Greenworks system.

Tagged for interest. Actually interested any info or links on electric riders or gas electric conversions. I have a Jacobson 118 with a broken piston I think would make a good conversion, and wonder why I don't see electric mower decks on electric golf carts. ________________________________________________________ You never know...

We've got a small city lot with landscaping and for 20 years we used a little corded electric lawn mower. Four years ago we got a Ryobi push electric lawn mower. Will do the front, sides and a variable amount of the back on one charge. We absolutely love it, does mulching or bagging with equal effectiveness. Got Ryobi weed wacker at the same time. Good performance from it as well. We're sold on electrics, especially nice to use the battery powered ones.

Another vote for the EGO mower here. _____________________________ "A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government."
