TV reporter struck by bullet fragment at Lucas Kunce campaign event

A Kansas City TV news reporter was hit by a piece of shrapnel Tuesday at a campaign event for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Lucas Kunce.

According to NBC affiliate KSHB, reporter Ryan Gamboa was covering the event at a gun range near Kansas City.

Kunce was firing an AR-15 style weapon at the time Gamboa was struck. A piece of shrapnel ricocheted off a metal target and hit the reporter's arm. Kunce was later seen wrapping a bandage around Gamboa's injured arm.

“Always have your first aid kit handy. You never know what’s going to happen," Kunce said later in a news release. "Shrapnel can always bounce off of anything and you’ve got to be ready to go. We had four first aid kits here, and I’m pretty proud of that. We were able to take care of the situation, and I’m glad Ryan is okay and was able to continue reporting.”

KSHB reports Gamboa's injuries were minor and he was released from the hospital on Tuesday.

Republican incumbent Josh Hawley responded to the incident with a post on social media platform X, saying "I condemn all acts of violence against reporters and call on Kunce to never shoot another one."

I have questions...

Why are they shooting rifles at steel at 10 yards?

Why are cans of tannerite on the shooting bench ahead of the firing line?

Where was the camera man positioned such that he was hit by a ricochet?

Is a scope and bipod necessary on a rifle at that range?????

The tweet in the OP had this: "Great day at the range today with my friend Adam Kinzinger."

That says it all. Kinzinger used to be a GOP Congressman from adjacent IL, several years ago he contracted Trump Derangement Syndrome and lost his seat. He is pond scum.

If shooting steel at 7-10 yards, we’re kinda getting close to a ‘Rust’ type event, with Baldwin.

They should have had someone there that was versed in shooting activities. It’s rather common during election season, non-gun politicians at the range or in the blind for a photo op.

Rhetorical question: what's the point of these stunts?

And Kamala "I OWN A GLOCK!!" Harris, ad nauseum.

These people are wolves in sheep's clothing. Even though there might be a few individual Democrats who are pro-gun, they'll still vote with the others if a gun confiscation control bill comes up.

There have been a few pro-gun Democrats in the past. The late John Dingell (D-MI, served 1955-2015) used to get NRA "A" ratings. But this is more the exception than the rule.

How are as his polls ? I like Hawley and he does some serious ball busting in his role on the judiciary committee among others. Unfortunately I pay attention to my own state races. I live in matt Gaetz district. To be totally honest until I voted Monday I thought the (D) were going to let it go unopposed. I’d have just as much chance winning if I ran as an independent. But I guess they found some sacrificial lamb to take the fall. Ag least she can claim she ran for congress once.

Rick Scott same thing maybe in central FL his race is tighter and he’s spending money there but not getting his ads here.

Who the heck shoots AR 500 at 15 feet.. could be yards, heard conflicting reports on distance. Even if 15 yards, Dude should be arrested for criminal stupidity. Same for whatever rangemaster allowed for this stunt to be pulled off. “But I’m former military”. Yeah. You and Pete Buttigieg. This will go down with the federal agent..”I’m the only one in this room qualified to hold this gun.. boom”

I hope they had that scope was cranked up to full magnification. Seven yards is a long distance. Seriously, has any democrat ever made a video or took a photo of themselves with a gun that didn't make them look like an incompetent bufoon?

A real man would be shooting from the hip at that short range, maybe after a couple of beers first, just to appeal the the right kind of voters.

There is a house close by in the background of one photo, so I'm guessing this is on private property. Probably out in a rural area on an acreage. So not some public range with a rangemaster. Also explains why the targets are so close and up against a tree line, which would never happen on a public range. Everyone involved in this stunt appears to be Dumb and Dumber.

Quite a few things wrong. To me, a distinct lack of empty cases on the ground. A bench that is rotting and collapsing. Remington 700 at 15 feet. Really? Tell me the empty cases on the right hand table look larger caliber than anything there. Fresh cut grass all over the bottom of the benches. This was a pure staged event. The fishing reel is a nice touch. I've never shot with people who had such a mess on their benches.

This and Walz hunting trip are both cringeworthy. Before these idiot politicians touch a firearm, they need training, which is readily available. I had an old boss who used to say, "This shit makes my dick hurt." I'm beginning to understand what he meant.
