The push to prime button is not the only potential air intrusion entry point. Check the entire fuel line from the tank to the carb for pinhole air leaks. Usually these are clear PVC tubing that are readily deteriorated by UV exposure. Air getting in the line can mimic the symptoms of a clogged up carb.
