During a recent snow storm here I found myself walking to my car in a Walmart parking lot. Slipped and fell. Butt first but knocked my head pretty good. After laying there for a bit I thought crap I'm in a parking lot I've got to get up before I get run over. A guy show up from a Dodge Rams idling to get into a parking space gets out and helps me to my car. At that point he's talking to me, and I'm talking to him, but I can't understand a word he's saying. Well, I make it home and the rest of the night and the next day I'm feeling like everything in my body has been jiggled and not in a good way. Other things not directly involved in the fall start hurting in a major way. Getting old ain't for sissies I can tell you that for nothing. _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!

Might want to have your head (brain) examined, in case you're still having issues. Q

Yeah, i agree about seeing a doctor. You just have to face reality. You are old. What's always in my mind is that a fall is very deadly to the elderly. One of my criteria in house hunting was that the driveway has zero to minimal slope. The picture I want to avoid is me pushing the garbage can down the driveway for pickup on a snowy morning and me slipping and falling. Heck, I can feel I'm old when I'm walking. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Pain is not good, for anyone. Couple months back, I took a falling cross member of steel pallet racking to the back of my skull and shoulder blade. Was trying to hold up a 24 foot upright with my small stature and couldnt do it. Couple weeks back I popped or tore something in my upper left rib cage. Havnt slept on that side for 2 weeks. The time in life has come for care and caution, never letting your guard down. As I said, pain is not good.

GET CHECKED OUT ASAP! I forget the term, it was a long time ago in the 80’s when I was an EMT but the result is a fluid build up, intercranial pressure and compression of the brain. Not saying this is what is going on but this one thing you don’t want. The OMI (Office of Medical Investigator) put on a workshop and showed us some very graphic photos as a result of that condition. It wasn’t quick but progressive. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. I'm in my early 60s and last Feb I took a really nasty hard fall on ice in my backyard, literally in the air ass-over-teakettle, falling hard on my back. My wife got me to the urgent care room near my house and I was in tremendous pain, could barely walk. Got some xrays and pain meds and later had a spine orthopaedist look at me, along with an MRI. The xrays and MRI were negative, thank God. But it took over 2 months for me to heal back to normal with rest and lots of PT. But I was frightened that I would have severe back pain for the rest of my life, it was scary. Get checked out by a doc. I used to be that guy who would ignore injuries and think I can self-heal, but not anymore. It used to work, but age has changed all of that. Yes and get some ice cleats. I bought some for my dad after he slipped on ice and broke his leg up close to his hip https://www.walmart.com/c/kp/ice-cleats-for-shoes V

This happened to my father, 6 weeks after the fall he was in the hospital where they drilled 4 holes thru his skull to drain the fluid and relieve the pressure. We thought he was done for but he survived although not the same. Get to a doctor. T

In my case “it’s not the years, it’s the mileage,” but Pilates has been painful, and frustratingly slow, but I’m making progress on old injuries instead of just degrading a bit more every year. However, a big part of that some things have to be avoided while I am recovering/some need to be permanently avoided. (AKA, no more working up a ladder trimming trees/cleaning gutters as someone with multiple spinal injuries)

"You may be entitled to compensation." LOL Seriously, if you have symptoms still lingering for a few days, or getting worse, have it checked out.

The only time I have ever been unconscious was as a result of bashing the back of my head against the pavement during a bicycle crash. I was about 10 at the time and 60s children being much more durable than kids nowadays, my parents were unconcerned. Given what we know now about blows to the head and TBIs, I will join the other posters and say go see your Doctor. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

Goose, I hope you have already sought medical care today. That OP is very concerning. Your description of a blunt force head injury, followed by a period of incomprehension, followed by major pain all over your entire body, all paints a very worrisome picture.

Bob Saget, Natasha Richarson, Dr Atkins (diet guy) and many others died from a head injury. The list goes on and on. Natasha Richardson hit her head while snow skiing. She denied treatment, thought she was ok, but died soon after from that. This is the insidious type of head injury, you think you are or will be ok. Epidural Hematoma. The damage starts without you realizing it, builds up, and BOOM you're dead. Typical and common story. Don' screw around, go to the ER and get checked. .

^^^^^^^^^ Happened to an old friend of mine a couple of years ago. He went home after a fall like the one described, spoke to his son for a while, went to bed and never woke up. Get checked out ASAP. ______________________ Live free or die... Don't tread on me... Molon Labe... Take your pick.

I arrested a motorcyclist after he crashed into a lane divider. Medics checked him out, no visible injury. He had been drinking so I took him in and tested him. BAC was .12 in the old .10 days. He was cooperative and lucid. He was a long time local with no previous alcohol offenses, so I let him call his dad to come pick him up from the station. He went home and went to bed and died there. Autopsy showed a brain injury. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

YooperSigs, Sounds like EMS dropped the ball there. Only once I had to threaten a patient with arrest. State guidelines were once the patient goes unconscious even if they regain consciousness they were determined to be unable to make a rational decision and were to be taken to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment. With or without their consent, refusal of service or transport was invalid at that point. He went down for the count, came to. As I was licensed by the state I told him we could make this easy or hard, his choice and my next call was the S.O. and they would handle it. He decided the easy was the best, lay on the gurney and take a ride to the hospital. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A.
