Sums it up for me. Though, my wife and I have never had a dog of our own for various reasons, and I used to think I hated cats.

At some point, our older cat will pass and the younger Maine Coon will really miss him. When that happens, we'll get a puppy. I figure a medium to large size dog. Max shouldn't have too much of a problem with a dog that size, being 30lbs of cat that kinda acts like a dog anyways.

Its either the cat or the dog. Both have their pros and cons.
I am a cat person. Looking at my cat and knowing his DNA is shared by the Tiger fascinates me.
For a dog person, the dogs DNA with the Wolf would be equally fascinating.

I like cats well enough, especially if you luck into a cuddly one.

I prefer dogs by a large margin. They're ALWAYS up for some lovin' and happy to see you whether you've been gone 10 days or 10 minutes.

I'm sure I get more comfort and pleasure out of petting and loving on a dog than the dog does.

I get the attraction to birds, especially the intelligent ones (as opposed to parakeets or lovebirds or whatever). But I know I wouldn't be a good Bird Person, the noise and mess and maintenance would be more than I'd be willing to deal with.

Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

Dogs, if you are willing to walk them, pick up their poop, tend to their needs etc. Cats, because they are cuddly, smart, purry, clean and very low-maintenance.

We had a flat coated retriever named Annie Mae. I’m on my iPad so I can’t post a picture. I’ve had dogs most of my life, but Annie Mae was, hands down, the best dog ever. My wife is not a ‘dog person’, but we both cried like babies when Annie Mae got cancer and we had to put her to sleep last Fall.

Mans best friend for us. Rufus was a sweet 85lb lap dog (Blue Tick Coonhound), Wingnut Aussie Cattle dog(red), Highway another Aussie cattle dog (black and Brown). We had a Rat for just over 2 years RB ( Rat Bastard )he thought he was a dog. All were adopted. Coonhound was a fun and funny dog. We had a small gathering BBQ. My aunt the Nun was talking to my wife, elbow on table with a hotdog in that hand. Rufus gently slid the hotdog out of the bun without my aunt noticing. Wasn't until she went on to bite it was she realized it was just an empty bun. Too funny!!! Pickle Rick.

I have 2 ragdoll cats. They are more social than most cats, make great companions but still independant enough that we can leave for an extended weekend and know they are okay.
Terrible guards and wouldn't lift a paw to defend us if someone were trying to cause harm. For that reason, I would have to say dogs are better pets.

I like dogs. In fact, I like pretty much all dogs, but I'm especially partial to retrievers.

I like other people's cats, too.

And, our current pup, Ruby (Border Collie mix [dalmatian we think]).

Edit: can’t post a pic but she looks very much like yours

This is my girl and she looks similar to yours. I had similar expectations as you did but I was interested in what her makeup is so I did a DNA test. Turns out on one side she’s Great Pyrenees X Boxer mix and the other side was mutt but they could say it had whippet, mastiff, some spaniel, some setter, and some terrier. She also sits like your pup with her paws crossed all the time. Point is you may be surprised what her makeup is and this was several years but it only costs like $80.

Oh also, dogs. Nothing compares. Cleaning up a bit of poop is a small price to pay for unending loyalty, love, and companionship.

I don't believe in a lot of "isms", but "What did we do to deserve dogs?" is one I can fully support.
