I am a lifelong DOG fan. Had them growing up and pretty much ever since graduating college. They are truly "Man's Best Friend".

However, my daughter has taken a liking to a number of reptiles over the past 4-5 years. Leopard Geckos, Africa Water frogs, Bearded Dragons, and Chameleons. I will say I was hesitant at first but she has taken amazing care of them all as they were acquired and I am very surprised that I really, really enjoy the Bearded Dragons as pets. Relatively easy to care for, hardy, and if socialized, very fun animals to have around. They will sleep in her lap when reading at night and are a lot more personable that one would think.

The dog is still tops, but I think bearded dragons are a surprise favorite if someone is looking for something different.

Wild birds ,out in the yard, coming and going as they please.

Feed'em, get'em a bath, make houses or nest boxes for them,
Plant trees and shrubs
For them.

Sit back and enjoy.
Take picture, even video them.
Learn about what works in nature, what does not.

No pissing on the carpet, no vet bills, no hair all over, no meds or pawning them off on others
When you want to
Get away,for a week.

You might get 20 kinds for the price of a large dog or three cats.

Maybe sleeping with a cat or a dog
Is the key to per pet tual
Happiness on Earth
I will never know.

* that being said
I very much understand the affection pet people
have for cats and dogs.

heck I'd have a dozen of each , If I had a full time trainer care taker, out in the 5000 sq ft pole barn for them all.

and a 8 acre pasture for them to run in

This is Copper he has been the best dog one could ask for, gentle when he needs to be and lets you know when someone is around the house. Willow was tiny when the first pic was taken, he became a champion few years later and the last one is the other day with Wells.

Dog. There is a connection that you cannot experience with any other house pet.

There are two type of people in this world - Dog lovers, and those with no soul.

Dogs. (Medium-to-large dogs, specifically... Miniature dogs are a whole different thing.)

Friendly, playful, loyal, loving, and easily trainable.

I'm allergic to cats. And they're generally assholes anyway.

Dog for sure.

This is last dog (Catahoula Leopard Dog), Luke. He was a great boy & gone too soon.

And, our current pup, Ruby (Border Collie mix [dalmatian we think]).

Dog, easily.

I’m not a cat person but I did love & greatly respect my wife’s late cat.

Hamsters breed way too quickly and sleep at the wrong time of day.

You can't get the love and loyalty of a dog from any other pet, IMO.

Dogs for sure, Yellow Labs mostly. Some times I really wonder whats going on behind those eyes.
They just seem to know what I'm thinking.

I voted “no pets”
But I have three fish
Two outside dogs
Two goats
Three sheep
30 head of momma cows

I don’t care for “inside” pets. Hell, sometimes I don’t like my kids in the house.
But really, it just seems like life would be so much simpler w/o all the extra dependents.

No pets.

I've had cats, dogs, birds, and fish. They're all neat in their own ways but I don't need the hassle or expense of taking care of a pet. Don't want to clean up shit, worry about rearranging my schedule because something needs to be fed or let out or whatever. Don't have room anyway.

I like cats and dogs in about equal measure. Maybe a slight edge to cats. But I doubt I'll be having either. I live alone in a small apartment, work all day and really can't leave animals cooped up like that. This is not likely to change until at least after retirement, and then will require a more suitable (for all of us) place to live. Any I do get will be from a shelter.

I've had my beloved cockatoo Roxy all her 27 years, half my life.

Birds aren't for everyone, but for a few nothing else compares.

I chose cats, because they're much easier to care for than dogs. Dogs have more personality, but they are high maintenance. Here are pictures of my cats:

Rusty (first cat, born in my back yard, died in 2014)

I love my cats. I sometimes have 3 or 4 of them on me in my lounge chair while I sleep. It is comforting.

Dogs are okay, but for versatility, the Great Northern Bernard Sulphur-crested, Silver Back Reticulated Nutscratcher Hermit Crab is the way to go. Protective and great for search and rescue, quick to adapt to the leash, yet always first in every race. Get two. They always travel in pairs.

I prefer fish. Low maintenance. Calming.

I don't have one now. Growing up, I had a Jack Dempsey Cichlid. He ate goldfish. There was a Leopard Corydora Catfish scavenger that was in the same tank. He left him alone for some reason.

Dogs are the best, they are more loving and loyal than any other animal, more loyal than a lot of people, plus there's all sorts of things you can do with a dog that you can't or it would be hard to do with any other animal. The only downside is they don't live long enough and it hurts when they cross the rainbow bridge.
