Mom and Granny’s place got smashed by severe weather the other night.
Electricity went out so the sump pump did not work and the backup failed so they ended up with about 7” of water in the basement.

1st restoration company came out and quoted $26k. I reminded Granny about the gun safe. Luckily only 2 guns in there as I have all the others.
I’ll likely be looking for a new stock for a Mossberg 500 here soon but we’ll see and the Colt Detective Special was on the shelf and did not get wet.

It’s not a very large safe. The fella that delivered it 20+ years ago did it by himself and delivered it from 60 miles away and charged a$50 delivery fee.

Granny called the restoration company and told them about the safe. They said it would add $4000 to the total for removal of the safe!!!!!!

2nd company is coming out tomorrow to give an estimate.

That’s because they assume that insurance is paying for it, and that’s something they likely sub out. We remove safes after incidents all of the time. I usually advise people to pay me directly and submit it themselves.

My daily rate is between $1,500 and $5,000 depending upon what we are doing. If you’re in the middle of nowhere I could potentially see that.

Black,

Is this within 100 miles of Cincy?

I will be happy to come over one evening after work to help move the safe.

How much does it weigh? How far does it need to be moved?

Do you have access to a dolly?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Thanks much. Hopefully we’ll be good. Have a 2nd estimate coming today. Spoke with him on the phone yesterday as he is a good buddy of a fellow Sigforum member which is how I got the contact.
The first company my Granny just called because she was freaking out since there was a ton of water in the basement and it was the first number she could find.

I’ll let you know. Really could just stay down there I am just worried about the floor of the safe rusting out now that it’s been submerged.

Not in the middle of nowhere. Delivery originally came from so far away because it was before the internet was really much of a thing and Gun Shows were awesome.
Dayton had a really good show which is about 60 miles from Cincy. There was a safe dealer there and he had some good prices.
The local safe guy did not do much with gun safes and was pretty expensive for special orders.
