Seems that my 2012 has a moisture intrusion problem in one so it's time for LED upgrade. I know about the anti-flicker devices I will need but does anybody have recommendations on which ones? For some background the only LED lights I am using are on my 2012 Electra Glide, I went with Trucklite brand there. Went to Amazon for the headlights on my '67 Pontiac, a set of 5 3/4 replacements with H4 Halogen bulbs but that is apples to oranges. While I'm concerned with brightness also beam spread is important out here with our deer population. Hoping to stay in the three hundred dollar range if possible. double that & you'll get one of the best headlights on the planet, at least for Jeeps. 'JW Speaker' & others have excellent performance. I don't know how the early JKs were even legal with the puny OEM spec. It took my own 'thrifty-habit' to find decent headlights for my 08 JK, and even then I spent almost $600 and far more turmoil & effort than the newer JW Speaker style. There's considerable discussion in the wrangler forum, and many products. My experience was the cheaper stuff was wasted effort & money. **************~~~~~~~~~~ "I've been on this rock too long to bother with these liars any more." ~SIGforum advisor~ "When the pain of staying the same outweighs the pain of change, then change will come."~~sigmonkey

Immediately after getting my '12 I upgraded to Silverstars, that helped immensely with side vision. The originals were useless to say the least. I was jealous of the lights in our Liberty, those were so much better. S-I-L's brother in law has JW Speakers in his '16. Both he and his wife are not happy with them though. The H-D version of JW's seem good but pricey, they are OEM for the MoCo. And I came here, I trust you guys! Why are you yelling in the title? Are you angry? I've had good luck with DDM tuning. And please don't run anything higher than 35w bulbs. It will blind oncoming traffic if you get too high of a wattage

I'm not happy with my OEM lights, but I'm not quite unhappy enough to spend what I understand to be necessary to get a proper upgrade. Thankfully I don't do anywhere near as much dark-roadway driving as I did in the past. $600 sounds about what I think it'd cost to do it right, and to me that's nuts. I think when I have a bulb burn out I'll get something brighter, but I don't think I'll ever drop $600 for headlights. Let us know what you decide. I can't justify the cost of the LED lights so I am planning on doing this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod...03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod...01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod...02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 A bit over $100 and a big improvement. Plus, no flicker problem, enough heat to keep ice from freezing over the lens, and glass lenses that will never yellow. Ken

I put these in my 13 JKU and I have been very happy. Install was simple. https://www.quadratec.com/p/qu...-17-jeep-wrangler-jk

I'm hard of hearing? Oops. I always liked the guys that wanted to dress up their Harleys in the early 2000's with those tri-bar headlamps. That is until they found out that those lights were lousy in performance. So they stuffed higher wattage bulbs in adding a problem to a problem. That is until the heat buildup melted the housing and the center black or blue dot in the tri-bar. Best one I saw, the dot was a drip and the bulb was pointing up in the housing. And he wanted us to warranty it. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. I put JW Speaker in my '12 JKUR. Main complaint was that they would ice over in really bad weather...the lense never gets hot enough to melt freezing precip.

LED shouldn't get any hotter than OEM bulbs. I've had HID do a little damage to my housing. But nothing major. That's one reason why I switched to LED.

Sorry should have clarified that they took out the 60/55w standard bulb and replaced them with a higher wattage bulb, like a 80/100w. The old steel and glass headlights like Hella and Cibie could take the higher heat but the plastic ones of the 90's and later would melt. I'm leaning to Trucklite brand like I put in my bike. Those I can get for the 300 dollar range plus the anti flicker modules. I've also wondered about using one of the harnesses that plug into the factory headlight harness. They use the headlight switch to control a relay that then connects the headlights directly to the battery. I used one of those on my '67 Pontiac together with the H4 Halogen conversion as the incandescent lighting left a lot to be desired in my case. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. One of the reasons it cost so much to get my own 08JK headlights usable, was the need to fabricate a functional harness that would carry enough juice the new 65/55(?) bulbs. I was told the flicker was because of inadequate 'canbus' current. The new glass reflector were also costly. The actual bulbs were the most economical of my expense. At the end I did have a most spectacular set of legal headlights. I believe around 2013 that harness/bulb issue was resolved. My 2015 JK solved its headlight problem by grafting the glass reflectors & the bulbs from the old JK, and has had no issues with flickering. I also upgraded my OEM fog light bulbs for special Amber version. The color/wave length seems to help better support depth perception. And the road-legal 3" cube Rigid Fog Lights give good service in our heavy PNW seasonal fog. **************~~~~~~~~~~ "I've been on this rock too long to bother with these liars any more." ~SIGforum advisor~ "When the pain of staying the same outweighs the pain of change, then change will come."~~sigmonkey

Could you tell me more about these? I need some more lighting and my LED bar is non DOT approved. Do not send me to a heaven where there are no dogs. Step Up or Stand Aside: Support the Troops ! Expectations are premeditated disappointments.

Take a look at the factory LEDs that fit the '17s and up. You can watch side-by-side videos on youtube and they are superior to anything else on the market. The only draw backs are they are expensive and they don't make any heat so they can ice-up in bad weather. The flickering has to do with the fact that the current to the JK headlights prior to '17 oscillates between off and on. Halogens can't react fast enough to the oscillations in current but LEDs can and you'll see flicker. You'll need the dealer to flash a sales code (5SX sales code) into the computer in order to get around the flickering. It changes the current supplied to the headlights from oscillating to continuous. I learned a lot over on wranglerforum.com about this subject. JP

^^^ Holy moly...I looked just to see, the Mopar headlights are between $800-$950 I'm glad this isn't something I have a burning desire to replace. I've been looking at tires all weekend, plasti-dipping my wheels whenever it warms up for a day or two...plenty of money being spent, but not on LED headlights lol Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here. So you are referring to the OEM LED's vs. the Jeep accessory LED's? Not doubting it but can they really flash that code backwards into a 2012? I've still got one "in" at at Chrysler dealership to get a break on the parts if this can be done. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. Assuming your comments are directed to me, yes OEM LEDs. And I believe they can flash a 2012. I know they can with a 2015. JP
