Make America Great Again

Retirement has been really good so far! Other than the ongoing medical issues causing me to not do stuff when I intended to, it has been great... including not having to worry about working anymore!!!

In addition, I’ve also been able to rebuild the gun collection I had to sell off to pay bills!

So far I’ve been able to purchase the following, and I’m not done yet:

  • P226 9mm with new night sights and Hogue Piranha grips
  • P229/357 plus .40 cal barrel, new NSs and Hogue aluminum checkered grips
  • P225, West German, with 4 mags, all original
  • P230SL, W. German, unfired with all original accessories
  • Ruger American Rimfire .22LR with walnut finished stock

Still on my list is a W. German P220, and I’ve been seriously eyeing a Browning T-Bolt with figured maple stock that my favorite LGS has on the wall! Yep, I’ve gone crazy but don’t care! Big Grin

Congrats! Enjoy the time.

That is what I assumed for myself, then poor health kicked in bad enough that I had to resort to disability since I couldn’t hold down a job anymore, and certainly couldn’t find another one!

It took 3 years and 2 hearings to get resolved, but my claim was finally approved, plus I got backpay for all the time I waited! Big Grin

Was it worth the wait and hassle? Finally, YES! A HUGE weight has been lifted from my shoulders, and I can actually enjoy what time I have left on this planet!

Congrats on your retirement. When my father retired he was worried about becoming a drag on the family. It took him exactly 2 days to get over it. Day 1 fishing, day 2, 36 holes of golf. He had all sorts of fun right up to the very end. Glad you're able to do the end.

My wife and I retired on the same day 4 years ago. We love it and both of us are healthy. We have a lot of things planned for the balance of our lives.

Best to you. Mike

Congrats Bill! I had no thought of retirement until shortly before I did so. Retirement has been wonderful – don’t know how I got anything done while I was still working!

Which T-Bolt? I have a .17HMR and positively love it.

I too retired a bit over two years ago a few months before my full retirement age but after Medicare kicked in as I never worked anywhere that had any kind of retirement package. No regrets though on it, I did what I could do, that is all.

And no regrets on retiring, I work part time mainly for my discounts at a Harley dealership and occasionally at a LGS when he needs some extra help. So far am just fine.

Good for you! I've been fully retired since 2006 and am having a very enjoyable time. Next month I'm traveling to Kenya for 2 weeks--hope to take lots of great pictures! (Not a hunting safari.)

The Ruger American Rimfire is a bolt-action rifle... and so is the Browning T-Bolt I mentioned at my LGS. I'm also still looking for a replacement .308 for the one I had to sell, so that might be done instead of the T-Bolt; haven't decided that yet.

Also have been looking a an O/U double-barreled 12GA at a gun store over in Rome, GA where my daughter goes to college. I'm leaning heavily towards finally going and buying it when I'm over there next... most likely over the Labor Day weekend!

Well, they have two on the wall... a .22LR and a .22Magnum. I will likely choose the .22LR, though I may opt for the Magnum instead since I already have several rifles chambered in the LR cartridge. Decisions, decisions... Big Grin

Congrats on your retirement also! I wouldn't mind do some part-time job (no more than 16 hours/week though), but my health issues make me 100% unreliable on committing to any job; I never know from one day to the next whether I'll feel decent or really lousy... most days are pretty lousy! Frown

I will pass on some useful information that was given to me when I retired 15 years ago:
Never pass a bathroom, don't waste an erection and never trust a fart.

Congratulations on your retirement.

For some reason your post made me total up how long I've been retired. I'm about to enter day number 1798 of retirement. Time flies when you're having fun!

Well Bill, it sounds like we have the same situation pretty much. Sunday I will have been retired one year, and unfortunately I had to do it because of my health but I had 43 years in so I was able to take regular retirement and not disability. Working on my gun collection too though some things I am unable to get out and shoot presently but hope for the future.
