Retirement is all it's cracked up to be and more. If you can stay healthy and get into a worthwhile routine it's immensely enjoyable. If you do develop medical issues, you at least have the time and hopefully the resources (Medicare et al) to deal with them. Initially I worried about "what would I do all day" as my days had been filled with constant activity. I enjoyed my work. I was pleasantly surprised that it was never an issue.

As Ken Moraif the investment guy says, "retirement should be like your second childhood without parental supervision".

If I can just remember what I always wanted to do.

I've been retired for about 18 months now. While I've had some health issues as well, I am continually amazed at how full my days are and I can't imagine how I got anything at all done when I was in an office 5-6 days a week.

Its all about taking a nap whenever I want. If there's something else someone wants me to do, it can wait. Looking back, I was probably a terrible employee. Sure, I got stuff done and worked sometime lots of hours. Got called in on weekends and holidays. Even went to restaurants on those days and got carryout for the elderly owner. I did it all. Then stopped.

Now I've got a high dollar chair. It not only reclines, but had a power switch to get that way. I've got a great view of the river. And a pair of shake free "IS" binoculars to look at anything that interests me. The bathroom isn't far. Neither is the kitchen or bedroom.

Retirement is about doing what I want when I want.

Retired two years ago this last July . I found a part time gig that pays very little but it gives me a reason to get up early and not become a couch potato . Plenty of free time to go to the range , mow the lawn whenever I feel like it , whatever .

I retired almost 9 yrs. ago and have enjoyed every minute of it. Sometimes though I think I'm busier than when I was working.
