We had two or three big cherry trees in our backyard when we lived in Ohio for a few years back in the late 60s and early 70s. I still recall the aluminum pie plates that Dad rigged in the trees to rattle to try to scare the birds away so we could collect enough cherries for some pies. While not my favorite, the cherry pies Mom made were very good and I still enjoy a slice of cherry pie from time to time when offered.

That said, Mom discovered Cherry Dump (also known as Cherry Dump Cake, but the version with the crushed pineapple in addition to the cherries) a short time after we moved and that became such a favorite in our family that I don't think she's ever made another cherry pie since then (although she still regularly makes her Cherry Dump).

I ride for pie except pumpkin which, for me, can go f^ck itself. Cherry is great, and in fact in my fridge is approximately 60% of a Costco cherry pie and the above ratio will be dramatically revised downward tonight.

I'm a sucker for just about any fruit pie, cherry is my favorite though, if the cherries are sour. Marie Calendar cherry pies are pretty good.

As far as I know, they are available at your local grocery store. That's where we get them.

This thread was fresh on my mind while wandering the frozen desert aisle the other day. I came home with a bake at home Marie Calender Crumb Cherry Pie. Gonna try it this weekend with some vanilla ice cream.
