After 23 years, I'm going from in the field to corporate with my company. I'll be in Louisville this week for training. Looking for recommendations for good eats. Boss said no steak & lobster, I'm assuming steak OR lobster OK Razz. What sayeth the Membership?

Head downtown to Feast BBQ on Market St.

Pizza - Impellizzeri's Pizza is the best (I think there is one downtown and in Middltown).

A little outside of downtown but Mussel & Burger Bar is good for fancy burgers.

Wild Eggs is decent for breakfast

I live down the street from the Precinct Wink .

Doesn't have to be steak/lobster, just good food.

Re "no steak & lobster," as an employee, I got fed up with having my meals questioned when I was traveling, so when I went to contract work, I just started charging flat rate per diem when I was traveling.

The IRS publishes per diem rates for various cities; I used that publication for a guideline and I just gave the client's penny-watchers a copy of the IRS pub if I was ever questioned.

I had a major run-in with a client when they sent me to Tokyo for a transfer-of-technology assignment. They booked the hotel room, then complained to me about the cost. Confused

They balked at meal charges, like the thirty bucks for breakfast -- the cheapest breakfast available at the hotel that they booked me into. Confused

I told my project leader that when they approached me for this contract, there were other companies that indicated that they could use my services, and I would rather just move on than put up with this crap. She had a word with accounting and I heard no more kvetching.

Kingfish is a Louisville tradition. If you are downtown, the Louisville Slugger museum is worth the trip and the Evan Williams' Experience.

40 miles South is Ft. Knox and the Patton Museum, but most of the armor there was moved to Ft. Benning in GA.

Kingfish is a Louisville tradition and it's good, not as good as it once was but ok. Best fried fish in the area is Clarksville Seafood on Eastern Blvd. If you go, I highly recommend the fish dinner with fried onions but fried scallops and shrimp are good too. Nothing broiled on the menu.

If you stay downtown an option is to walk the Big Four bridge across the Ohio river and eat in Jeffersonville. Ann's By The River is a classic cafeteria featuring blue plate specials. Menu changes daily but fried chicken and roast beef manhattens are constants. great homemade desserts, too. Many other good casual places on Spring St up the street from Ann's with my favorite being Comeback Inn. Wonderful Italian food and very reasonable.

For steaks I like Ruth's Chris and they have a super location on top of Kaden office tower in Dupont area that has a great view of the city. Pat's steakhouse on Brownsboro Rd is old school ambiance and very good. both of these are a few miles out of downtown but easy to find.

For breakfast, lunch, or both, I like Mimi's on Hurstborn Road. A little bit "chainish", but darn good food.

Kentucky honors all States CCW permits, so if you have one then you'll be good to go. If staying Downtown, then check out "4th Street Live" for food and entertainment; but watch your back at all times for the riff-raff and wannabe thugs in that area. Churchill Downs is having their Spring meet so you might want to check it out too.

Do NOT go west of 9th Street. Louisville currently has had 51 murders so far, but most of those are in the areas west of 9th Street. The Mayor is a dumbass pandering Democrat who is more interested in building bike lanes than in solving problems. The police chief is currently under-fire for the murder and crime rate that has ballooned under the dumbass Democrat Mayor; half the City Council (Dems and Reps) want the Police Chief gone.

Also "Mike Linning's" in SW Jefferson County has good fried fish. http://www.mikelinnigsrestaurant.com

Mark's has some decent barbeque and sides at its several locations. Mitchell's for fish and Stony River ok chains in the Paddock Shoppes
Good German food at the Gasthaus - reservations;
Bardstown Road has a load of good places to eat.
Gault House Resturant not bad; downtown starting to have some good fare as Whisky Row developes
Check's is a Louisville institution, as is Pat's Steakhouse.
Enjoy your stay. We eat good here.

And dinner. One of the finest dining experiences we've enjoyed was there. And yes, their bourbon menu is outstanding. Check out the Smooth Ambler if they have it.
