I'm a tiny bit surprised we don't see more trucks with snow plows mounted.

Horse shit. Blocking a road is not in itself an immoral action; what matters is the cause and the purpose.

Just a quick update on this legend, Kenneth Darlington.
This incident came up again today while I was chatting with my shipmate who used to live in Panama and whose father knows Mr. Darlington. Apparently he was sentenced to 45 years, but in Panama, since he's over the age of 70, he serves out his term under house arrest instead of in a prison cell.
Not too shabby.

In Indiana, deadly force is justified to defend against a forcible felony. That means you can kill a perp committing armed robbery, attempted murder, rape, arson, and more.
Involuntary confinement is also a felony. And all of these actions preventing free travel of citizens on public roads are thus involuntary confinement. Waiting to see how this would turn out here...
While I don't condone this old man's actions, it should serve as a deterrent to other would-be activists. Never know how angry a person will get when you pull this kind of shit and it might get you killed. And over what?

It would have turned out very badly for him here. This was not criminal confinement. He was not prevented from leaving, just prevented from continuing in the direction that he wanted to go. It also wasn't forcible, as nobody was physically restraining him or preventing him from leaving.
If this has happened here, we'd have arrested the protesters for misdemeanor obstructing traffic, and maybe some other stuff like disorderly conduct, etc. He'd have been arrested for murder, and it almost certainly would have stuck.

Seriously, openly committing murder (or at the very least manslaughter) in Panama? That murderer had zero left to lose after the first one. And even less after the second. I wonder why he stopped as much as I wonder why he started.
I think him a late-stage terminally ill, mentally ill, narcissist to have killed two people over being inconvenienced.
It wasn't about convenience, had nothing to do with it.

Yeah, they were blocking the road, but I didn't see any threatening behavior at all by the demonstrators in that video...I've definitely seen a lot worse out of the "peaceful protests" here in the US. Dude is likely going to spend the rest of his life in a Panamanian prison, and from what I saw in that video he deserves it.
Are you missing the point about being a hostage ?

At what point was he being held hostage? He freely walked up to those people and shot them.
I don't know anything about Panamanian politics, or what the protests were about. I have no idea if it's some kind of communist bullshit, or maybe a cause I'd agree with. What I can see from the video is that people were blocking the road, and there's clearly a line of stopped traffic so it's been going on for a bit. I don't see any of them attacking or even surrounding the people in the vehicles, nor do I see any damage or pandemonium.
It's not like this guy was being threatened with physical violence, or surrounded and attacked in his vehicle (like we've seen happen in a number of protests here in the US in recent years). He was free to get out and walk around. That's not being a hostage or confined. He could just as easily have walked away, but instead he chose to close distance with the people standing in the road and shoot them.
If he tried to claim self defense as justification for that shooting, he'd lose in every court in this country.

The idea could be that your rights end where mine begins. It might not stand up in court but the nerve and arrogance of someone thinking that they can inconvenience another without regards for possible repercussions is beyond me. You can protest on the side of the street. It’s different when you protest in the street. My opinion …
