If you think law enforcement was a toxic clown circus wait until you walk into a classroom as a substitute teacher. You may want to smoke a little weed before you go. Wink

40 years?
Congrats, Sir! I'm going to have to have a drink after work tonight. I'll raise my glass to the south west and toast to your new rank!

Congrats.

It won't be long before people ask, if they haven't already, "What do you do with yourself all day?"

I always thought the purpose of retiring was to get off the hamster wheel. So, whenever anyone asks me what I do all day, I tell them "As little as possible". Big Grin

Can you Carry there? At school?

Under Texas law, honorably retired peace officers can carry everywhere in the state off-duty active peace officers can. The only "no carry" places are the secured area of an airport and inside a correctional facility.

Wake up every day slow,
And go down hill from there.
You earned it.

This happened to me many times. My response was “whatever I F****** want!”
Be prepared, I went through several phases including low self worth. After working almost all my life, I felt like I was on unemployment or welfare. The wife and I reminded ourselves this is why we put up with a job with a pension. This is why we pounded our 401Ks.
My wife had a very stressful job. I tried to get her to quit for several years. She used to have a bubbly and contagious laugh that disappeared, it took over a year to get it back.
This is where you heal from all the crap you’ve seen and shit you had to put up with.

Congrats on your retirement, find things that bring you joy and enjoy every minute!

Congratulations! Enjoy your well earned retirement. I’ve got exactly 9 months to go before I too retire and I’m really looking forward to it. Smile

No worry, there'll be plenty of it coming from the bathrooms.

I retired from my full time gig in 2019 but I swear in some respects I am busier now than when I was working full time..
Stay busy!
