Not leo but my son is Midland tx PD. He gets real frustrated with the drivers here. We've outgrown our infrastructure to. They have very specific rules on when he can run lights and sirens. When he needs to be runs mostly in the turn lanes, we have lots of them here. He was the first cop on scene for the recent mass shooting here. 92fstech his tahoe will go at least 120 according to him. Tommy

Mine's not the pursuit package. They got a deal on a special service model and bought it...it's governed lower. Same thing with my previous Durango. The PPV versions have a stiffer suspension, better brakes, and a higher top speed. I'm not totally sad about it with the Tahoe, because that thing is a boat and 112 is about as fast as you want it to go. But that Durango was really nimble and stable, and would still be accelerating hard when you hit 110, and then its legs would get cut out from under it abruptly. Very frustrating. That said, the Tahoe has been way more reliable, can haul more gear, and is a lot more comfortable, so I'm happy to be driving it. The last time I hit the governor was in a pursuit, and I caught them anyway, so maybe the boss is right and 112 really is fast enough lol. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

My first units were ‘89 Ford Crown Vics, and we also had a few mid to late ‘80s Mopars, which were mostly for the supervisors. Our first new cars were the ‘91 Chevrolet Impalas with the Crossfire Injection. We got some ‘92s, but our first love were the ‘94s with the LT-1s. They were governed at 120, but they’d get up there fast! We then got the next gen Ford Crown Vics, which we staid with through their upgrades. Though not fast, we liked them at first because they had electric windows. Then, we started getting the ‘13 Ford Police Interceptor SUVs, and I was finally in what I considered to be the best LE vehicle. They had AWD, a tight turn radius, a responsive throttle, easy in/out of the backseat for prisoners, had an elevated seating position with more than enough wiggle room, relatively got good fuel mileage, handled good, had good room for MDT/firearm rack, and had a great rear cargo area. It did it all! Right before I retired, we just started getting the ‘15 EcoBoosts. My sergeant was going to give it to me, but I wanted it to go to someone else as to allow the other officer to experience having a new unit.(We all had take-homes) However, I just test drove it, and gave it to the other senior officer. I loved my ‘14, but that ‘15 EcoBoost romped! To me, THAT was the perfect LE vehicle. The night before I retired, I turned my ‘14 over to another officer, taking over his ‘08 Crown Vic - units I’ve spent most of my career in. I didn’t blink when I turned it in the next day with all of my other gear. It had served its purpose, but had been greatly eclipsed by the PI SUVs. Then, I came out of retirement at about 5.5 years. At that agency, I was back in a non-EcoBoost PI SUV, where I felt at home. I eventually whacked a deer, so while it was out, I got a Durango with a hemi. It was nice, was very stable at high speed, but it was governed at 109/110. However, it got up there relatively fast. I later found out it was a civvie version purchased off the showroom floor. Still, I wasn’t unhappy with its performance. Then, we got the new latest gen Ford PI SUVs with the EcoBoost. They were FAST, and just did everything better than my beloved previous gen. It had all of the latest lighting technology and a better radio/MDT system, and did I say they were fast! I have no idea if they were governed since I had more to go, but I’ve been in the low 140’s in it. Tuning around and going after speeders on a 70 mph US highway was our bread and butter, and we’d regularly hit the 120s for those continuing on at speed. The hyper speed was for assistance of other officers on hot calls. IF…the same motor and trans is in the Ford PI sedan, with its better aerodynamics and probable lesser weight, I can imagine THAT was crazier than our PI SUVs. We didn’t have them nor the Chevrolet SUVs. DPS and other local agencies had them, so I have no experience with them. Retired Texas Lawman

One squad that I think gets overlooked a lot is the 2011-2017 Caprice that was essentially a rebadged Australian Holden and shared a platform with the Pontiac G8. A neighboring agency had them, and those things were absolute rockets. RWD with a 6.2L V8 and suspension and brakes to match it. Everyone who had one loved it. Unfortunately, that motor suffered from the same cylinder deactivation design that GM put in all the other LS motors from that era, and within 4 or 5 years all of them had gone through at least one valvetrain. GM support also sucked, and parts availability out of Australia for non-drivetrain stuff was spotty or non-existent. When they went into the shop, they stayed there for an unacceptable length of time because the dealers couldn't get parts. Then GM killed the program altogether, and all of those cars went away. Sad because the platform had great potential. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

The last of the V8 interceptors. The manual transmission Chevrolet SS was one of two cars I looked at in the mid 2010s that I regret not buying. The other was the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350. My wife’s Explorer ST makes the same amount of horsepower and torque as the SS, but it’s not a V8 with a manual transmission. I’d guess the current Explorer PIU is just as quick. The problem is heat soaking the intercooler causes a huge loss of power. Also, the Explorer ST is electronically governed to about 145mph.

The Ford Intercepter goes to 138. My truck tops out at 147. I'm not feeling lucky so neither of those limits will be reached on my behalf.
