Congrats on the new cat, my shelter kitty lets me sleep until 6 am then bats me on the head if I don't get up to feed her.

She had ringworm when we adopted her as a kitten, $500 later she has been trouble free for the last eight years. I think that is money well spent.

I tip my hat to you. If I could afford to send you a pallet of kitty litter, I would.
Much respect.
I know you're getting much love too in return.

Thank you, but my wife and I get by. Most of the inside cats came from pregnant moms we brought in and just added the kittens to the madness when they were born!! LOL!

It's 3:30 AM and we're up after a half hour of putting it off. Going to try to start backing off daytime feeding a little, so she'll eat more before bed. We'll figure it out. I'm just glad she's eating for now.

Not sure how I'd do with 19 cats, but I know I sure couldn't afford to feed them. Good on you, my friend. And yep, cats are cool Cool

Well, we have no kids at home. All grown (from separate marriages). It costs us a nice chunk every month between the wet canned cat food, dry cat food and litter. Oh, not to mention we also have a dog in the house, a Pit/Lab rescue.

We have three covered outdoor feeding stations, plus several heated (electric mats for pets) outdoor shelters. I even put in a pet door on the porch door that leads to the back yard. There are four more heated beds on the porch. All the outdoor cats have been spayed or neutered, so no growing population.

Progress!! I slept until 5:30AM this morning before being awakened by a cat on my chest wondering where her food is. Moving the evening meal later by a couple hours may be the ticket.

That's also why I sleep with a pillow on next to me. If the cat jumps up and wants to stomp on me for food, I just put that over my ribs and make fun of the fat bastard while he stomps me for food before it's time and I fall back asleep.

Cat-dad for almost 40 years - welcome to the club! Smile

Cats are like hobbits, and like their second breakfasts, elevenses, supper, dinner, not to mention late night snacks. Ours have always had dry food available 24x7. My guess is quite possibly the prior owner might also have been putting dry food out and Chloe got used to having the option to fill up the tank between wet meals.

Nothing wrong in putting out a bowl or two of dry food that are kept from getting empty. Removes food anxiety (once you find a dry food she likes) and might well get you later wake-up calls.

Of course, some of our cats have found other reasons, such as boredom, to want their humans awake. Part of the charm.

Partially took your advice. I put a plate of dry down at bedtime. I don't want to free feed her all day because the vet said she needs to lose a pound or 2 and put her on a 200 kcal diet. It worked! I woke up at 7AM on my own. A couple pieces of kibble still in the dish which she immediately scarfed and then bugged me for her wet. This, I can live with (of course until she gets comfortable enough to wake me up to play) Smile

It is nice to see old cats getting a good home. My little Dixie was ten when I got her. She was with me another nine years. I have twelve the are residents in my yard that I feed, and another six that visit. I have gotten ten kittens adopted including Winston and Jackie who live with me. They are three and two years old respectively.
