Can't quit fakebook. Did that years ago! Got tired of all the nonsense posted from people I never knew. Never could figure out why I should get upset because some putz got stung by a bee, or had a flat tire, etc etc etc etc ad nauseum.

Deleted my account last year. We use my wife’s account to post apartment rentals, but I personally have nothing to with Facebook. If you’re really my friend, you know how to reach me.

Gee, I feel kind of left out! I may have to join Facebook just so I can have the pleasure of telling them to kiss off!

I too quit when I realized I was addicted and when I was just arguing with random people on my neighborhood board. I started to go down an angst filled rabbit hole that had no bottom in sight. Facebook truly is a cesspool.

I didn't realize how much time I wasted on Facebook. I also deleted 3 twitter accounts, and two Instagram accounts. I truly am happier without all that garbage.

I kind of tried some of the conservative alternatives but I'm just not into it. That may be unfortunate because they need all the help they can get but I just don't have the gumption.

Why would you argue with people on the internet?

Like, what's the point? What's the upside? What happens when you win the argument?

Even here on Sigforum, if it begins to look like an argument, I just bow out. I'll add perspective or context or data, but if people disagree then people disagree.

Why get all twisted up about being right on the internet?

No kidding why add this stuff to your life, neighbor is addicted to trolling libbys on FB, Fox anything on his iphone. Spends countless hours a day doing it.

His goal is to ban as many people as he can by baiting them into saying something derogatory and then report them..

I posted just a picture of a sheep, their own emoji, 30 day ban. I could care less. its fun to screw with people on there. You should see the uproar when I mess with the Hawaiians about ignoring their 14 day quarantine and post I came and didn't stay put. you can literally watch the Karen's head explode! its comical. I plan on deleting it.

I really just don't care about that stuff anymore.

If you aren't using Facebook to scroll through pictures of your friend's cute kids or to look at funny memes posted by your friends, I think you are doing it wrong.

You can control your online interactions or you can let them control you. Facebook, twitter, the gram, here, whatever. They all provide some value to me so I will keep using them.

Years ago my immediate and extended family got on my case pretty hard about joining FB, which I never did do. Friends did the same as well. Totally refused to do it. My wife did the same. Sometimes I would think that I'm missing something but damn, that's what texting and emails are for. At the time it was not really about the politics and mostly about their apparent (lack of) privacy initiatives that kept us away.

Now years have passed and nearly half of them have booted FB, without so much as a peep out of me cajoling them on the evils of that vile service. Best learning tool was to let them live and learn it for themselves.

Facebook just banned all Australian news outlets. The Aussie government passed a social media tax on social media outlets. Their logic is you basically killed our newspapers so if you're going to use our content you're going to pay for it. If this snowballs it could get interesting.

Indeed. Conservatives and liberals alike should ALL run from the manipulative AI. And for God's sake keep your children safe from it. I am working hard with my kids to pull them back.

Because of this thread, I decided to try logging into facebook. Last time I did was about 4 years ago. I guess I've been so inactive, they locked my account and the only way to reopen it was to upload a photo ID. lulz, nope.

A lot of good people use it effectively every day. And lots of businesses use it vs an actual web page.
I use it for a Jeep group, a BBQ group, a smoking meat group, the local police page and a few similar along with keeping up with friends and family. I strictly limit my "Friends" and don't get involved with political stuff. I seldom actually post but it can certainly be a useful tool... A couple days ago I posted our electricity was out, and that my truck was under as fallen tree. One quick post and I had 8 or 10 replies, despite the fact I hadn't ask for help, offering transportation, firewood, chainsaw help, food and multiple places to stay.

I still have FB, but maybe spend 5-10 minutes a day total on it. Great way to keep up with some non-shooting groups, and of course--extended family and friends. So, the beast remains fully under control.
