Jimbo54Anybody have experience with Sig Zulu5 binoculars?
I just got an email from Sig Sauer offering 50% off of their Zulu5 10x42 binoculars. $239.99, regularly $479.99.
Does anybody have these or tried them? If so how do they perform for you?
I don't really need another pair of field glasses, but they might come in handy when I need a little more length than my Vortex 8x42 glasses.

ggileI'm rather curious about them also. SIG must really want to sell them because they sent me four emails regarding this offer.

UTsigI bought a pair a few months ago, they were on sale then, too. I got the 10x42, mainly for bird/wildlife watching in our yard. They are very clear and seem well made. Just like a lot of other items they are made in China, no way to avoid this in today's world.
We have Pentax, very well liked and ZenRay, wife doesn't like. The Sig got two thumbs up from the wife, she's pretty critical.
My biggest knock on binos is the lens covers retention, the Zulu 5 are not any better than others, worse than some. I find this frustrating, I just leave them in the house when viewing. My Steiner Military/Marine have the best covers of any I own, never fall off and these are probably 30 years old!

JohnVI have experience with both the 5’s and the 7’s. I currently own the 7’s that I got for a steal off eBay. They are excellent. Great edge to edge clarity and contrast. Good low light transmission. Comfortable to hold and a velvety smooth focus knob. I find I tend to have to focus them a lot even with small changes in viewing distance but that’s not a big deal to me.
The worst part about them are the objective covers. They are absolute trash. They don’t stay put, they are hard to put on and they will fall off. I can not believe Sig had such a gross oversight on the objective covers. They know they are trash too because if you see their booths at trade shows, none of them have the covers on them. I’ve asked sig a few times if they were planning any upgrades and I’ve never heard from them. The covers are the only thing in my opinion that keeps them from being perfect.
My previous experience has been with Nikon Monarch 5’s. The Sigs blow them out of the water in all viewing categories. I use binoculars a lot during hunting season and I use the 8x’s.

GraniteguyIf the glass on your binos is legit - the lens covers are completely irrelevant.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. They are water proof and have a lifetime guarantee so Sig is sure they will hold up under harsh conditions. I don't hunt anymore so I don't see that being a problem.

The seller on Amazon is Optic Planet. I won't deal with them anymore after a really bad experience trying to buy a scope not long ago.
