His Royal Hiney |
My favorite pizzas were from Pasquale's in San Francisco and, even better, was a pizza place next to a bingo place in Orlando, FL. Three or four of us would go in, share a large pizza with different customizations on each half of the pizza and a pitcher of beer. Good times. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

It was great back in the 90s. I remember when they had glass pitchers of beer. Now it totally sucks. They put some kind of garlic jizz on the crust. :: sigh :: ________________________________________ -- Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. Imagination and focus become reality |
In NW Indiana we had 12 of them close within the last month or so. Apparently they weren't using the ingredients they were supposed to use. We stopped buying from our local one a couple of years ago. Their quality went down significantly and the prices went up. We switched to Aurelios. It was a no brainer.

Indeed! We stopped going to Chicago several years ago, but for close to 30 years we would go twice a year. Once in the summer and once around Christmas time. We always stopped at the original Unos. Pizzeria Due was down the street a block or two away but we always went to Pizzeria Uno. I recall it being on the corner of Ohio and Wabash. Good times!

25 years ago my grandmother (Nanny) used to love going to Pizza Hut buffet lunch. I was only 16 but I’d try to take her once a month. I think back then it was 6.99 a person. Maybe a little more, I can’t remember. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

Not really from Vienna |
We still have a sit-down PH here. It’s a dirty, dark place with shitty pizza and idiots for employees. Going there to eat is an act of desperation. It, and Little Caesar’s carry-out, are unfortunately the only games in town for pizza. We’ve had locally owned pizza places in the past but they don’t seem to last long. I don’t understand it.

Pizza Hut is still here in Northeast Indiana. But they have changed the Veggies on the Pizza.

They were both owned by the same guy, Ike Sewell IIIC. Best pizza anywhere. But not in the burbs. Many years ago we stopped one in Vernon Hills IIRC, thinking it would be like Due's and Uno's downtown. Not even close. I was amazed at how a product from the same company could be so different.

This thread brought back memories from being a kid in the 70's in Matawan (Old Bridge) NJ. Remembered always getting our pizza at Attilio's. Just checked and they are still there- opened in 1970.

My wife worked as a waitress for Pizza Hut over 30 years ago. When we would eat there, she insisted that we get our drinks in paper cups because the red cups were not clean. I just asked her about the cups and she had a disgusted look on her face.

Man... those pans were so hot! But our closest Pizza Hut (30 mins away) had the only Mortal Combat Arcade anywhere near. Was amazing if I could con my dad out of a few quarters to play. Never been to Pizza Hut. Fortunate to have had a number of local pizzerias to imbibe at during my youngling years, and have maintained that habit that my parents so rightly started and one that I have mostly maintained up to today. During my teens, about the only franchise pizza joint we ever went to was Shakey's, mostly because we knew most of the kids who worked the evening shifts and could often get deals and freebies on a lot of food and drinks. The food was only okay even by high school age taste bud standards, but saving some cash was nothing to joke about when on a typical teen part-time job, minimum wage budget. -MG

I recommend that you try it. Then, you will really appreciate the local mom & pop pizzerias. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

There is one here by me and I wonder how it still makes it. We used to go there once a month, my wife and I but that was years ago. There are a couple Pizza Hut take out only places and we just tried it the other night but their recipe for bread sticks has changed for the worse and they are nothing like they used to be. Seems even the pizza dough is different. Sadly, another thing that will go the way of the DoDo.

Brings back memories from 40 years ago. Both sisters were in dance recitals, of course the whole family went, grandparents, etc. I remember a few celebratory pizza dinners afterwards. Back when Pizza Hut had better quality, or maybe they just didn’t wash the pan! Fast forward 20 odd years camping/trout fishing with my sons. If it got too late or raining, off we went to a nearby Pizza Hut. Man miss all those days.

Miss going to Pizza Hut with the family when I was a youngster, and then in the early 80s playing Asteroids, Pac Man, Battlezone and Donkey Kong in the little arcade area next to the waiting area in Beloit, Wi location. They also had a "Badger Special" which was mozzarella and cheddar with sausage. So good! If you like religion, laws or sausage, then you shouldn't watch them being made.
