When we bought our house, it came with a Canon Safe as part of the deal.
I have the code the prior owner set, and it works, but I'm wanting to set my own code on it.

I do not have the manual for it, and trying to access canonsafe.com results in a redirect to Google.com Confused

Also, how long should I expect the battery life of the 9v battery to be? The prior owner said (via my RE agent) he kept the battery out of it to avoid the battery dying.

Thirdly, any safe 'accessories' to recommend? It's in our [large] laundry room, and adjacent to the [room converted] garage, but the humidity level in there [laundry room] stays pretty low with the size of the room.
Probably still worth adding in some humidity control in the safe.

Does the lock have a manufacturer label or any other lettering that would help identify what it is?

If not, could you post a photo (or if you don't want to post it, you can e-mail it to me).

I wouldn't worry about the battery remaining in the lock. If the lock is operating properly there's no real drain and should last many years with regular use.

I'll see what's there when I get home tonight.
I believe it's a Cannon Safe Safari Series 12-gun safe.

I change my 9V every year, but that is just me. When it gets low it will beep a few times extra when you open it so it will let you know when battery is getting low. Also I mine there is lever on the bottom that you can manually trip to lock bolts. Then you can test your new combo with the door open in case there is an OOOOPS. )

No identifying marks/labels that I can find on the unit (dial or safe in general).
It's built into a cabinet, so I can only see the door and the interior of the safe.

Securams are six zeros to enter program mode, your existing 6 digit combination, your new 6 digit combination, and then repeat your new 6 digit combination.

Nothing in between or after. Say your current combination is 1-2-3-4-5-6, and you want your combination to be 8-6-7-5-3-0:

0-0-0-0-0-0

then

1-2-3-4-5-6

then

8-6-7-5-3-0

then

8-6-7-5-3-0

It will make a double beep after each entry. Do it with the door open and check it after, but most of the UL locks will not change unless you did everything correctly.

Thank you sir!
Will give that a try.

Nice to have a real safe. Prior to this, I was still using my dad's old wooden cabinet from when I was a kid (inherited when he finally bought a safe).

I've got a Cannon Executive Series safe and here's a photo of the page in the User's Manual for programming the lock:

I don't worry about batteries dying in safe locks. I worry about the locks themselves failing. It can happen and it has happened.

Mechanical is the way to go. a1abdj is our resident safe guy guy and he has infinitely more experience with such things than I, so he may have something to add.

The safe came with the house & is in a custom built-in cabinet (stealthy).
If/when it's time to upgrade, a mechanical will be top choice.

Good to know about the batteries being a mostly non-issue. Luckily, it's easy to access via a plastic trim-ring/cover.

Edit: Thanks for the manual page email Tooky.

Too bad it isn't a 7 digit combination - you could have 8-6-7-5-3-0-9
