Rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated |
Curious if anyone has done this. I currently use USAA, and noticed if I take a $40 online class I'll get a discount. Anyone do this recently? Looks like about a 4 hour commitment on the computer. Thanks folks. "Someday I hope to be half the man my bird-dog thinks I am." looking forward to 4 years of TRUMP!

Only suggestion I can make is make sure you have a good Internet and Wi-Fi connection and no distractions. I had to take a driver improvement online class in lieu of points on my license for a traffic violation. With all that went wrong the points would almost have been preferable. I did get through it and the ticket was removed from my record. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. If there isn’t a test or an online proctor watching you, I’d probably do it. State Farm offered me a little device that plugged into the OBD2 port. It monitored and reported speed, acceleration and braking, g forces... Not a chance. The “lol” thread

I just spent $15 and saved $150 every 6 months with GEICO. Took me about 2-1/2 hours online. No test, no fail.

Wow. I can't get a discount on car insurance and I'm a school bus driver in Kentucky where I have three months of training to be hired and 16 hours of in service training every year. I drive a school bus on thin, hilly, twisty country roads about 1000 miles a week, and I don't qualify for any discount. ARman

They are checking your speed, and breaking. If it was just mileage, you would read them your odometer and a mouth later you would read the odometer to them again and then every 3 mouths. ARman

I did Progressive's a long time ago and plugged into OBD port for a month. It monitored 5 different things. Time you drove (12am-4am was a ding against the discount), miles you drove, speed above speed limit (over 10 over was a ding), braking or how fast you braked, and I think the last was acceleration.......I drove like Grandpa for a month and got the 30% discount and my rate has stayed low. https://agirlsguidetocars.com/...wer-insurance-rates/

I did something similar years ago with State Farm, only this wasn't an online class. It was a workbook about good driving habits, plus a trip journal thing. If completed and turned in to your SF agent, you got a discount. For a 20ish year old male, the discount was significant, and worth it.

GEICO reduced my 6 month premium by $168 Defensive Driver $168.00 You are receiving this discount because you, or a driver on your policy, have taken a defensive driver course and are a member of the National Guard or an eligible active driver on your policy completed an approved Defensive Driving course. I'm not NG, just a 69 year old guy who wanted to save over $330/ year on the insurance for 4 cars.

USAA has a SafePilot program where their phone app monitors your driving styles and may offer a discount. A while back I asked if USAA offered a discount for having a dashcam and was told not with USAA. Looks like this is the course: https://www.safedriver.com/ins...e-discount/usaa.html

I know State Farm recognizes any online safe driving course for a discount. They also have a Drive Safe program where you stick a small contraption in your car about the size of a matchbook that monitors your driving. I had one years back but it prevented use any navigation device on your phone or any phone calls period even if you had bluetooth. Stopped using it after a month.

USAA customer here. Take the online course, call USAA insurance and tell them you completed the course. Defensive Driving discount is $40 for each renewal for 3 years. I did an in person one through work once. The next time around I did it online and swore I'd never do it again because it took me forever. You have to read or listen to each page for a set minimum time, no skipping ahead. Even if you are genuinely paying attention, you still get more time than you need. What really happened was I did it without paying attention, while doing other things on the computer. So what REALLY ended up happening was pages that should have taken me a minute, took 3 minutes or 5 minutes each. So the course that should have taken say 4 hours, took 16 hours over several days. lol I said I'd never do it again. And then when it cam time to do it again, I was stuck home with the flu, so why not do it. I've used a different company each time. I'll try to remember USAA next time. _____________________________________________________ Sliced bread, the greatest thing since the 1911.

Another USAA customer here. I took AAA's online defensive driving course a couple years ago; cost was $15 I think. Got USAA's discount and remember it was only about what I paid for the course, so no big incentive to do it. That said, I thought the course was useful and I plan to take it again.

I seem to remember that the Defensive Drive discout with USAA was effective for 2 or 3 years. When you look at your Discout page of you policy, it will spell out the expiration date of the discount. If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it. You might get out before the devil even knows you're there. NRA ENDOWMENT LIFE MEMBER
