No one is buying the Taurus for fleet use. the cost difference between the Utility and sedan is down to a few dollars unlike years ago. Same running gear and a lot more utility. The old Panther Crown Vic sucked. Couldn't get out of it's own way short of a three mile straight, terrible in the snow and not all that well suited for the needs of today's equipment. The features built into the new sedan and utility make it a much better car and faster with better gas millage. Either way, ford planned on dumping the present Ex/Taurus platform in 2020 years ago.

I have a 2009 Sable(Taurus) that has 115,000 mi. We put a new battery in after 6 or 7 years and new tires on. I went to change the front brakes at 80K mi, and there was 75% of the pads left. I did change the rear pads but they were only 50% gone, but I had already bought the pads. Other than that, no problems. We have a month old Explorer Sport and love it. Of course we have a Tbird that has been no problems. My F250 iS 2010 that did have the AC/heater diverter motor go bad. Other than that, nothing, the battery is still original in that. My son and sister both have new Fusions that they just love. I hate to see the Taurus and Fusion go away, I was planning on getting a new Taurus in a couple years to replace our Sable. The old Vic may have been a roaring couch on iceskates to drive but agencies would have kept buying them because they dont look around past "what works". I do believe axing the Vic was one of the dumbest automotive moves I recall. Not that I miss it mind you.

Times change and so do tastes. Ford is just going along with the times. They won’t regret it and they’ll be more profitable for it. ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

Wait, what? |
Everyone I know driving the new Exploder Interceptor loves it; everyone running the sedan wishes they had the SUV. So much more room, and no real trade off in performance. “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

Porsche sold more units in the US than Ford sold police cars. At this point LEO vehicles are almost a botique market and I'll bet the profitis pretty slim as well. _____________________________ 'I'm pretty fly for a white guy'.

Nothing drove like the cars from the panther platform. A ten year old Grand Marquis still rides better than any brand new Honda or Toyota but no one bought them anymore. The demographic is dying off. Can’t make cars that don’t sell.

VW is killing off the bug. Auto manufacturers do this from time to time. Europe will probably continue to have some sort of Ford hot hatchback with a turbo that they will eventually water down and import to the US by its second or third gen. Ford cars are not terrible. We rented a focus in Colorado that was a decent little vehicle. If the cars are just not selling eventually you have to stop and go back to the drawing board. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance

Add me to your list. I’ve driven Crown Vic’s, Impalas, Chargers, Caprices, and who knows what else. I never thought I’d like something more than a Crown Vic. The Ford Explorer police SUV is hands down the best police vehicle I’ve ever used. By leaps and bounds. Never would have guessed I’d say that 5 years ago. Good. The worst car I have ever had in police service was the Taurus. What a piece of junk. We stopped buying them after a couple of years. I hated that car. It was in the shop constantly. We quit buying them after a couple of years because of all the problems. The bean counters say the Explorer is the lowest cost maint wise of all of them out to 100k.

Manufacturers build what people buy. People are buying SUV/trucks. My garage has two suv’s and a Mustang. Question for Sigforum members. What’s in your garage? Car or SUV/Truck?

3 of the largest LEO agencies in my state have a ton of them in their fleet along with the SUV's.

The Ford Utility outsells the sedan in agencies by a wide margin. the price difference is only a few dollars. The sales are six to one. 2017 - Utility - 33,000 Sedan - 7,000 2018 numbers dropped even lower for the sedan. http://carsalesbase.com/us-car...ice-interceptor-suv/ Our price for a Utility is 25,525. The sedan in FWD is 21,300. they don't even offer the AWD under the state contract. There will always be a market for a sedan. the admins like them. But them can get away with a standard street version. We started using the older model Escapes years ago.

If I could only own a single vehicle, it would be a truck hands down. They are good enough now that they don't really give up much performance or comfort wise to a car, and their level of utility is just so much higher. "The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford, "it is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards." "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."
