It would be far more efficient if Mike Madigan simply skinned and preserved Gov. Pritzker's corpulent corpse. They he could just put the skin on and speak as governor when he needed to.

I believe Tennessee sales tax is less than where I live in Illinois now as it is about 10 percent around here but we also have state income tax and sky high property taxes. When I look at homes in Tennessee with similar value to what we have now the property taxes are about 15 percent of what we pay now. Getting away from severe winters and constant more gun control laws is another big factor as is living in a state that is fiscally sound and will probably remain red for a long time yet. We are looking at south east TN around Knoxville area including Maryville.

I live in Knoxville, moved up here about 20 yrs ago from Atlanta. No state income tax, sales tax averages 9.5%, property taxes are low, no personal property taxes on vehicles, just about a $60/yr tag renewal. There are very few anti gun areas in East Tennessee and crime is very low. No govt issued permit is required to buy a gun and you can get a lifetime CCW.

Nashville is getting all the CA transplants, so its a bit nutty over there, and Memphis is strongly Democrat with high crime.

The biggest downside to East Tennessee (at least for me) is a lack of senior high tech jobs. I’ve had to travel for work for the last 25 years.

The upside is that I live on a ridge and can see 40 miles into the smokies, I can be on a hiking trail over there in an hour. There are tons of lakes if you like boating, plus golf, hunting, fishing..... but little skiing, ice fishing, or snowmobiling. Wink

I don't think it's a coincidence that Boeing is now potentially in a scandal over the faults in their MCAS system. They convinced the FAA not to worry about it, they had it under control, just like Chicago has crime and taxes under control.

Birds of a feather, if you ask me.

This needs a "like" button. Beautiful area. Close to enough of the cool stuff to be fun, but far enough in the hills to feel rural. Lovely little area to settle down. Wife and I are seriously considering it once the kids are off to college.

If it weren't for Chicago, East St. Louis and Rockford, IL would be a great place. Too bad Crook County couldn't form its own state so they can only keep fucking up their little paradise instead of the entire state.

My sister is a tax lawyer. She was in NYC for 5 years and has been in London for 15 years now.

She is looking to come back the States. She came to visit me (Plano, TX) last year.

She said after NY and Chicago the most in-house tax lawyer jobs were in Plano.

I said “Plano, Texas?”

Apparently the amount of companies that have moved their HQ here and require in-house lawyers is staggering. I still think of it as a suburb with a bunch of longhorn ranches.

Get out of Illinois!

Boeing was given so much money to move here it was sick!
I think they only brought about 400 jobs.

Actually, I'm of the opinion that is actually the definition of "fair." Right now, everyone in Illinois pays 4.95 percent state income tax. That's "fair."

If you make $50k, you pay $2,500. Earn $1.2 million you pay $60,000. Everyone gets the same services.

Notice how the left and the lefty opinion writers claim the rich are paying less as a percentage? How do they create that theme? The bastards screwed with the numbers and combined state and local tax payments. Liars ... all of them. I have no idea how they manipulated it, but I know they did.

And they have the guts to call this a "fair tax?" No, that's not right at all.

I find their "cultural appropriation" of the true "Fair Tax Legislation" as extremely offensive. A true fair tax would tax everything and everybody at the exact same percentage rate.

One of the few things I like about PA's income tax is that it's 3.07% across the board, whether one works 2 shifts a week at McDonald's or is the Heinz family. Of course, I'd rather pay higher sales tax and have no property taxes or income taxes. I'd rather pay based upon what I consume.

I agree. Their "appropriation" of the "Fair Tax" name is how leftists operate. It's exactly what they did with the meaning of the word "liberal", which has come to mean the opposite of what the word actually means. The idea of the "Fair Tax", which people like JALLEN have advocated for, is to replace the income tax (which is only paid by half the people) with a consumption tax.

If you want less of something, you put a tax on it. Taxing labor is not a good idea, but it's even worse when only about half the people pay. Tax day is a welfare check for 1/3 of tax returns with more money back than they paid in.

Illinois is doomed due to the regressive socialists running the State for the last 60 years.

Good advice. Move out of Illinois. It's gonna get worse before it implodes.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

True but it is not just the rich and powerful. Democrat retirees are fleeing Illinois to move to states with lower taxes but most of them will likely vote for democrat policies also. My sister and her husband are perfect example. They moved to Nevada because of low taxes and thus low cost of living. Then she tells me she voted for tax referendum because she thought it was worthwhile and her taxes are already so low so why not. Mad Mad
