Green grass and high tides |
First let say thank you to all of you who posted and offered suggestions. We all know that most here have beloved pets and love them as much as we possibly can. I took him in yesterday because he had all but stopped eating. All of this progressed to that point in about a week, no more. It was about a 16 hour day. Two vets and about 200 miles to see an emergency specialist clinic. Looks like it is a cancer. Have an apt. with a specialist on Mon. So not good. The vet did not pull any punches with what she could determine. Her last comment was that there is hope and lets see what the specialist determines He is about 6-7 years old. He was abused as a puppy. A woman adopted him. Had for a few months. Was more than she could handle. We took him. There was a longish adjustment to get him adjusted. But once that happened he has been great. He and I have a very special and strong bond and this one really hurts. Our female heeler mix rescue absolutely loves him. The tears come regularly. A gut punch does not fit. More like a wrecking ball to be honest. We lost three of our cats and my 16 yo Australian cattle dog last year. All those were difficult. But to some degree expected. This, out is of the blue. I had hoped he and I would have another 10 years to the finish line with lots of adventure and love to get there. But does not seem like that will happen. Wife is gone on family business. That is probably a blessing right now as I am pretty upset. Took him and his mate on a walk to his favorite spot close to the house. I call it the "Bluff" and when I tell him "Lets go to the Bluff" he gets really excited. Thanks for letting me get a bit of my chest. Please say a prayer for him, and maybe throw me in there too. Thanks guys. This message has been edited. Last edited by: old rugged cross, "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Sorry to hear this. I will offer that we’ve had multiple times where the regular vet thought things were worse than they were and the specialist had good news for us. I hope that this ends up being your experience.

Sad to hear about your pup, ORC Cancer sucks, and no mistake. We've lost two of ours to it, both well before their times. One of them, like you and your buddy, to which I had a very special attachment. "America is at that awkward stage. Very sorry to hear. We lost our Catahoula to a suspected splenic tumor a in 2017. He had no appetite as the tumor was pressing into his stomach. He was a shelter dog that my wife got before we met & he adopted me pretty quickly. Hit me hard when we left without him & gets to me even now remembering. Praying for the best for you & your pup.
